| Chirp, chirp,
chirpa, chirp! Oh we have a visitor so we must speak their language
while they are here.
Hello! Hello!
Hello pretty baby! My name is Toby and I am a parakeet. Let me
introduce you to my roost mates. The dark blue parakeet is
Tyler. Say hello to the nice person Tyler. Hello!
Hello! You are so pretty! Now our other roost mate is a cockatiel
and her name is Simon--more about that name later. Say hello to our
visitor Simon. Chirpa, chirpa, chirpa, chirpa. No Simon you
must speak human language now.
Since Simon was the
first to arrive at the roost I will let her speak first.
Thanks Toby and hello
there to our guest. First things first. You noticed my name is
Simon and also that I am a girl. Well, I can only say "thank
yooooou" to the people that cleans the roost and feeds us for that
name. You see back when they brought me to the roost they wanted a
boy and they just naturally assumed that I must be a boy. Geeesh, do
they need glasses! It took them a very long time to discover that I
'am a girl'. I started to lay eggs and you should of seen the look
on their faces. However, they still left me with a boys name.
Can you get over it people. I am woman hear me roar!
Okay Simon calm down a
bit and let Tyler say something.
It's about time.
That Simon goes on and on and on and on. Like it was our fault the
humans gave her that name. Oh pardon me for that but Simon can get
into such a hissy.
I was the last to arrive
at the roost and I bunk with Toby. We are such great roomies accept
when there is a branch of millet nearby. That Toby wants to eat it
but the humans put it in here just for little me. So I let Toby
know, in no uncertain terms, that it is mine, mine, mine.
Don't let Tyler fool
you, I get that millet when he's not looking. Besides, I was the
first parakeet to arrive and I 'Toby the first parakeet' have seniority.
One of my favorite activities is flying in the room. I take off and
fly circles and then go back to my cage. As a matter of fact -- not
to brag -- but I taught Tyler how to fly too. You see, Tyler would
take off flying and 'bang' into a wall and the humans would bring him back
home. So one day I felt really sorry for him and thought I better do
something before he got hurt. It took a few lessons but now he can
fly almost as good as I can.
Toby I can fly just as
good as you can, if not better but I do thank you for the lessons.
It was sure hard on the noggin before you stepped in.
Oh, here we go,
parakeets can sure carry on. Let me assure you that there is nothing
more spectacular than a cockatiel in flight. People are in awe when
they see me fly. I am also much more pretty than any parakeet.
If that is so then why
do the humans always say 'you are soooo pretty' to us.
Simon and Tyler, let's
behave ourselves while we have company. Besides, you know that the
humans thinks that each one of us is special.
Oh, one of the humans is
coming now. Oh my, she is getting something out. Oh my, oh my,
it is a sprig of millet. Here she comes. Me first! No,
me first!
Chirp!
