Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance

For: Nintendo GameCube, Sony PlayStation2 and Microsoft XBox

Here it is. After many dissapointing sequals the Mortal Kombat once again pulls out a winner. Kombat has indeed evolved. The main draw of this game is the many 'real' fighting moves each character posseses. Every character with a tap of a shoulder button can swap their fighting stance to one of 3 unique Martial Arts. One of which includes a weapon. For Example, If you are playing as Sub-Zero, a tap of the shoulder button will switch your stance from Shotokan-to-Dragon-to-Kori Blade then back to Shotokan. It is really quite a good addition, although there really is no need to swap because you can defeat someone with a single repeted press of a button.

Now, where would a Mortal Kombat game be without blood? And luckily this game doesn't dissapoint a simple slap will cause the blood to leak from an opponent. Also some characters, when in their weapon stance have access to an 'impale' move where they lose their weapon and it becomes imbedded in their opponent and they slowley bleed to death, this can be very cheap though and may lose you some friends through overuse ^_^. Also there are fatalities in the game, but you probably guessed that anyway, and some are truley grusome. The main problem though is that there is only one per character and no stage fatalities (spiked pits, huge drops, etc)..There are lots of secrets to unlock, in particular the Krypt which holds 676 Koffins which you open with Koins (Too many K's) some Koffins hold characters, costumes, and arenas. Others hold images, of MK merchandise and some fake merchandise.

Overall- This is a game which brings Mortal Kombat back to it's bloody roots. The gameplay is both good and disappointing at the same time. The graphics are solid and do their job (although the blood can be silly at times). The sounds are good and you feel the pain of the Kombatants though each scream. The game is good but still not perfect, Still it's a welcome edition to a dying series. I give it an 7 out of time.

Incase you were wondering, there are 23 characters in this game they are a a mix of Old and new (and 2 pointless) they are: Shang Tsung, Bo Rai' Cho, Quan Chi, Li Mei, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Kenshi, Mavado, Sonya Blade, Hsu Hao, Kung Lao, Raiden, Reptile, Cyrax, Kitana, Nitara, Jax, Kano, Drahmin, Frost, Sub-Zero. Also there are 2 really hidden characters with no fatalities or fighting styles of their own, these are: Mokap and Blaze
