In 1833, Leonard was a soldier and living in Uckfield, Sussex and he was by then married to Margaret. She was born in
Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland, many miles away from Sussex. Margaret's family did not appear to move away from their home town where at that time there was a large barracks. It must be considered a possibility that Leonard was posted there whilst serving in the army and that is how they met.

By 1838 Leonard had left the army and was working as a labourer. The family had left Sussex and moved to Berwick where
they remained until at least 1851. Margaret had died on the 15th February,1850 from consumption and Leonard was left to
bring up their young family alone.

It seems highly likely that they returned to Sussex at some point, later events such as births and marriages seemed to occur in Sussex and other southern England counties.

Date and place of Leonard's death is unknown.

The grave of Margaret Hazelden (nee Davidson)
St Mary's Churchyard, Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland.
Two of Leonard and Margaret's children, Mary and James, are buried in the same grave. Note the date of death for Margaret, it says 5 January 1850 when,
according to her death certificate, she actually died 15 February 1850.

Bridget Davidson Hazelden, daughter of Leonard and Margaret, married John Williams on the 6th July, 1873
at Ripley Parish Church, Derbyshire.
