Brother of Darkness: Dir. Billy Tang. This is the CAT III film at its most extreme. The story of a Wah is told in flashback during a chilling criminal trial and the picture painted isn't a very pretty one! Wah is a completely insane psychopath, committing all manner of nastiness to strangers and relatives alike. He doesn't forget anything, rape, incest, murder and a whole load more. a CAT III classic. Subtitled Widescreen. (1994)
Bruce
Lee in New Guinea:
Bullet

Burning
Paradise: Dir. Ringo Lam. Excellent New Wave period Martial Arts. Widescreen Subtitled. [BA]
The Butterfly Murders: A fantastic Hong Kong New Wave film from master director Tsui Hark. Butterflies invade a castle and its inhabitants, in a similar vein to Hitchcock's The Birds. Subtitled, but very badly better to watch in 16:9 if you can, its a little squeezed but you can see more of the subtitles this way.
The
Cat: Stars Tony Leung. Very bizarre take on the Sci-Fi genre that has an
alien take over the body of a cat in order to hide from an intergalactic
mercenary. Has a Kung Fu fight between a cat and a dog. Very odd, but good!
Subtitled.
Center Stage: aka Actress: Directed by Stanley Kwan. A biopic/homage to the 1920's/30's Shanghaiese actress Ruan Ling-Yu, who committed suicide due to social and media pressures. Maggie Cheung plays Ling-Yu in what can only be described as a reconstruction of scenes from her films and her life. The narrative is broken by sequence of Kwan and Cheung talking about the film that they are making and Ling-Yu. Strange but fascinating. Widescreen Subtitled.
Centipede Horror: Dir. Keith Li. Very interesting little horror entry. A dark priest puts a curse on some women who then begin to regurgitate centipedes that in turn devour them alive. He is then taken on an investigative trail of investigation and intrigue that involves fighting with mysterious strangers and questioning a dizzying array of witnesses and suspects as he tries to solve the case. Beautiful fight scenes and striking visuals make up this fantastically intricate Hong Kong whodunit. Widescreen Subtitled. (1977)

Hard
Boiled II: The Last Blood: 12 Hours of Fear. Stars
Andy Lau. Widescreen
Subtitled.
Hero: Ying xiong. Dir. Zhang Yimou. Inevitably compared to, but conceived long before Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero is Zhang Yimou's interpretation of the classic wu xia genre. Nameless (Jet Li) is brought before the king to explain his bewildering defeat of the three deadliest assassins in the whole of China, Flying Snow (Maggie Cheung) Broken Sword (Tony Leung) and Sky (Donnie Yen) and to receive his reward. As Nameless recounts each story he gains increasingly large rewards and ever increasing proximity to the King, gradually it becomes apparent that all is not what it seems and in classic Rashomon style, the King proposes his own hypothesis on the events put forward by nameless. Although perhaps more commercial than Yimou's previous films Hero is certainly no less typical of his usual boldly colourful and beautifully visual style, Yimou retains his integrity by not succumbing to mindless spectacle always maintaining the balance between the mind and the body whilst raising important issues surrounding Idealism and communism. This is an absolutely amazing film and in my opinion vastly superior to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This is the shortened 98 minute theatrical version and contains an unsubtitled 25min making of documentary. Widescreen Subtitled. (2002)
Heroes
Shed No Tears:
