Goal Setting

Who made resolutions? Do you have a game plan? 70% of all New Year's resolutions are finished within the first week. Who wants to retire someday? When? Do you know how much you'll need? CPP is not going to do it for you. You have to know how to get there. Most people don't plan to fail, they fail to plan.

The best way to predict your future is to create it.

Brian Tracy wrote, "A person who takes a single action as the result of a new idea or insight is far more valuable then the person who learns a hundred ideas and does nothing."
So, we all have things we want to accomplish before we're done. Everyone has goals, but not everyone follows through on them. You are allowed to change them as you grow as a person. Two years ago I tried to make a list of 100 things I'd like to do before I die. I got up to 64 and couldn't think of anything else. I recently revisited that list and crossed off a bunch of them that were no longer important to me. Of course I left on the parasailing in Cancun. I believe that we need to have goals so that we can make it through the rest of or average and ordinary lives. You know, the day to day routine that we typically find ourselves in. I think that the first step is to take responsibility for our own life and happiness. No one else is going to finish it for us. Remember we are always in control of ourselves. We can't point a finger or blame others for where we are at right now. "If it is to be, it's up to me."

We have no right to be frustrated with where we are at if we don't know where we want to be. If we want this year to be different we have to be different. Do you want the next three years to be like the last three? If the answer is no, what are you going to do to change it? You need a LIFE GAME PLAN. A self development program that will take you to where you want to be and have what you want to have. In other words: goal setting. The three ingredients for achieving your goals: Desire, determination and a positive attitude.

Steps to Goal Achieving

1. Intense Desire. If you don't want it so bad you can taste it, it probably shouldn't be a goal.
2. Goals must be believable but cause you to stretch. a. Be challenging.
3. Write them down.
4. Write down all the differences it will make in your life.
5. Analyze your position. a. Where are you at now?
6. Set a deadline (latest outline date) Focus point, if you miss your mark its okay.
7. Identify obstacles to over come.
8. Identify knowledge required for its attainment.
9. Clearly identify people, groups and organizations whose assistance you will need to attain the goal.
10. Make a plan complete in every detail. a. Write down all activities. b. Prioritize by importance and time.
11. Have a clear and vivid picture as if it already existed now.
12. Back plans with persistence and determination.

Rules to stick with:

Put up Visual Goals
Stick to a disciplined self improvement regime
Spend time on the right things and the right people.
Work hard, play hard. Decide to win. Except no less from yourself. Raise the bar. Tell yourself everyday that you deserve it.

So now that you know the step to achieving your goals, how do we learn to set them?
Life Game Plan 1. Break down your goals:
Personal
Spiritual
Health & Fitness
Financial

Remove the clutter from your life.

You can do a goals list and break it down from there or there are other ways of goal setting. I really like doing what¡¦s called a PATH. I list our all of my goals that I want to accomplish and work backwards to what needs to happen first. You can also sit down with a friend and brain storm what it is you want.
1. Two types of goals:
Long term: 5 years, 10 years
Short term: daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly
2. Visual effects.
Put up Pictures/posters where you can see them every day.
You have to revisit your goals.
3. Be Passionate about your life.
Have big dreams
Fuel your dreams
If your dream is to own a Mercedes, go test drive one.

You need to be reminded of how bad you want it.

Life will give you what you are willing to fight for. What are you willing to do to win?
You will need: Self commitment and integrity. You have to honour self promises, build credibility with yourself. Are you going to do what you said you are going to do? Figure out what would be worse for you: The pain of change or the pain of regret. You choose.
A friend of mine keeps reminding me lately that if I truly wanted to do or have something I would. She's absolutly right. If you want something bad enough you find away to accomplish it. Act like everything is going to work out.
