Nice page.

I don't know if you want to let everyone know - here in the UK anyway, that CC will be playing a weeks residency at Brimingham's Ronnie Scotts from 10-15 November 1997.

I'll let you know if they play any new stuff.

Hi Tomas,

A big hello from down under! What a fantastic homepage you have made.I have tried to locate some "live"material of China Crisis but with no luck here in Australia. So I contacted a couple of other fans that listed on your e-mail page.I hope that they reply!

Do you have any of this live stuff that you would be generous enough to copy for me?I will pay you any costs of course or swap other band live material if you prefer. Also I can locate some rarer stuff here if anyones interested.

Anyway, thanks again for a great page.

Regards Spyro

Hi Tomas!

I found your excellent site through the Ultimate Band List. Its great to see there are so many China Crisis Fans out there. I'm looking for lyrics and haven't had much success to date. I noticed that many people who have e-mailed you have requested info on where to find them. Do you know where I might find lyrics? Hope to hear from you - Caroline, fan in Toronto, Ontario. Hej Tomas

Interesting interview with Gazza, hope you'll add more bits and pieces to the page. But what about news about a new record? I know that The Chinas will play a couple of gigs in Manchester around November 15. We should try to get in touch with them and get some information!

what about a news section?

Thank you for the great China Crisis web page. I am hoping you can help me locate where I might purchase the double CD "Collection: Very Best of...". I can't find this anywhere and prior to stumbling onto your site, I never knew it existed. I have every album and none of the singles so you can imagine my excitement and desperation in locating practically a whole CD of new tracks!!

I would appreciate any help or direction you can give. They are clearly my favorite band of all time narrowly ahead of Steeely Dan and Gabriel-led Genesis.

One note you may find interesting: I have the "Warped By Success" CD that contains "Tell Me What It Is". It is listed as a bonus track. I live in Los Angeles but picked it up in Paris, France as a Japanese import.

Thank you very much,

Bob Bacon (bob_bacon@fa.disney.com)

Hi Tomas,

I would just like to congratulate you on having such a dedicated website. I have been visiting it for a few months now, and I have come across some news which may be of great interest to all the Crisis fans out there. I recently (15th Nov) travelled to Birmingham to see China Crisis's last night at Ronnie Scotts Jazz club and I intended to write an article about the evening for a fanzine.

However, Eddie kindly agreed to do an interview with me and I was even able to have a few words with Gary as well. Unfortunately, other than a camera, I was less then prepared for a full interview and the lack of a Dictaphone and set of questions meant that I was kicking my self afterwards and struggling to remember the answers he gave to spur of the moment questions.

However, If you would be interested, I would gladly send you a copy of my article on the evening as well as the information I gained on the future of China Crisis.

Yours Sincerely,
Richard Skoludek

Thanks for the fast reply!

What I have written so far just concerns the interview and is about 1200 words so far. Would you be putting it on your site? Eddie said he would like to see the finished article, so when I get a reply about it from him I will send a copy to you via e-mail.

You may like to know that during the interview I mentioned your site and he seemed really impressed, so keep up the great work!

I look forward to hearing from you soon

Richard

Hi, I have loved China Crisis since I heard African & White on John Peels's radio show in 1982. (This is a musical institution in the UK for those non Brits.) I bought the single which had a dark green cover and Red Sails as the B-side. I subsequently said goodbye to it in 1987 when my house burnt down! (long story). I recently managed to find a 7" copy in a second hand shop in London. This was the one you mention (Cat no. INEV 011) with Be Suspicious as the B-Side. I got it for 30p (I was outraged; they ought to have charged at least 5.00) and have now cut a hole in it so it plays on my jukebox! Anyway, I think there was a re-release of African & White about 6 months after the original release which is the one I believe I had all those years ago, then again it could be my memory...

We actually saw CC live in September of this year in an appalling venue in Covent Garden, London called the Roadhouse. It was full of sad hen party and stag night people who had drunk three bacardis and would not have known if the bloody Stones had been playing. I think there were four of us there who had actually come to see CC so although they were excellent and it was very moving to see them again after so many years it was also embarassing for them to have to play in front of a load of idiots.

Thanks for the page; it's good for me (and the band) to know that there are still others who give a damn about them

Tomas

I've been meaning to e-mail you for over week now. I went to see CC play on Saturday 15 November at Ronnie Scott's in Birmingham. It's only 40 miles away from where I live so it was easy to get to.

Here is the set list:

Thank You/Everyday the Same/Blue Horizons/It's Everything/You Did Cut Me/Stranger by Nature/Black Man Ray

Christian/Fire & Steel/Arizona Sky (all acoustic)

Gift of Freedom/Catholic Style/African & White/Strength of Character/Wishful Thinking/My Sweet Delight (more about this later!)/The Understudy/Tradegy & Mystery.

I managed to have a word with Eddie during the break and asked for a few requests. I asked him if they were going to play "Sweet Charity" (one of my favourites), he said "no", I said "Cucumber Garden", he said "no", I said "Performing Seals", he said "You're joking aren't you! try again!", I said "Back Home". He said he didn't remember recording half of those songs, nevermind trying to remember how to play them!

My mate asked him to play "Real Tears", but he said no one would know that.

I also asked about a new album. He said there was nothing recorded and no plans for a new album yet. He said they were both planning to do some solo stuff first! I think he must be joking. They can't sell records under the CC banner, nevermind as solo artists. I asked about Telegraph and it was obviously a sore subject, as he said they went down "with all our money", which suggests Acoustically Yours sold pretty well.

The only new song was My Sweet delight sung by Gary accompanied only by a keyboard. It was a nice "love" song.

I mentioned your web site to him. He said he was aware of various CC related sites on the net.

If you want to know anything else, please contact me.

Best wishes

Simon

Hi, I'm a Brazilian fan of China Crisis, and I'd like too much to congratulate you for your page... I just loved it. I'd like also to invite you to know my 80's lyrics page and also if possible to participate on choosing I'm doing at my page... The 80 best of the 80's in 6 categories, and there are already many votes, I'm waiting for yours, and if you could tell your visitors to participate also on this voting and of course we're gonna take many China Crisis votes. There 6 categories and each visitor choose 3 in each one, they are

  • Best bands of the 80's
  • Best songs of....
  • Best Albums of...
  • Best Album Covers (Sleeves) of...
  • Best Videoclips of...

    and

  • Best movies of the 80's

So, I'm waiting your vote

And your answer if you could put a link to my 80's lyrics...

Another thing, as you'll gonna see in my page - it's a lyrics page, and I've got only Wishful Thinking lyric, but the song I love the most is Christian and here in Brazil we speak portuguese and it's hard to get only listenning the lyrics of the songs. It's already hard to get only a record of China Crisis, imagine how to understand and to get their singles (these ones are quite impossible, I've never seen a China Crisis single in my life...). So, I'd like to ask your help again if you could get the lyriccs by ear of Christian (Please, I and some friends of mine here in Brazil just love this song). You know as we are here in Brazil Crisis.

I'm waiting for your visit, and I hope you help me.

Thank you very much

A big hug

Enjoyed your web page.

I was lucky enough to see China Crisis last night in South Shields. There is so little publicity about them that I only noticed a small ad in the local paper 45 mins before they were due on stage about fifteen miles away.

It was a tremendous gig. Starting off with "Thank you" moving into "No more Blue Horizons" and then onto "King", Black Man Ray" and African and White" and others.

A small close appreciative audience enjoyed every minute and Gary knocked back a couple of free Brandy & Cokes! Eddie was a little disappointed that Liverpool FC had been beaten earlier by Manchester Something.

Looking forward to their next visit to the North east of England.

Keep up the good work!

Tony,

Excellent!

Seeing the record sleeve covers brought back so many memories. I had theentire collection in vinyl and first saw the band in 1981 (or 82) in Newcastle upon Tyne supporting Simple Minds. I collected everything, then my brother was going to Japan and he sold the whole collection without telling me, to raise some cash for his trip!

I went to see them in Glasgow a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was eighteen then, and 30-odd now. I am going to get the collections on CD over the next few months.

Keep up the good work

Congratulations, what a nice page!

I thought I had spend my money on almost everything that is availble from CC here in Germany, and that's not much!

What I didn't know is that there is a limited edition of the "Very best of China Crisis" around with some tunes on the disc 2, that I have never come across. But where to get it? And how? Please give me a hint!

You must definitly be a big fan if you bought three times this boring Arizona Sky single. No sorry, I really like China Crisis, especially their older tunes from the early eighties. I'm still a bit angry because almost one year ago CC anounced that they would play live at Hamburg. That could have been a great concert, I convinced several friends of mine to come with me to see one of the best pop-bands around. Unfortunately CC did not show up this evening. My complaints sent to their management by e-mail they answered that they didn't come since the taxes in Germany are too high.

Damn it! Of course that's true, but shall we all emigrate? If they wait for the taxes to fall, then they will never come around here. And that's more tragedy than mistery!

All the best,
Ralf

Hello,

Just picked up "Flaunt the Imperfection" on CD. Hadn't heard it since I had the album in 1985 and am very pleasently surprised to hear their sound again. I saw them open for Santana in Southern Cal, forget the year, '87 or so. If you get the chance could you please recommend another title by them?

Thanx,
Chris

Hi Tomas - Excellent site - and what a fantastic collection you have!

We saw the Chinas twice during their summer tour this year and spent quite a time talking to Eddie after the gig at Telfords Warehouse in Chester.

Rediscovered China Crisis this year after many years of near-silence from the band. We are proud possessors of an original copy of China Crisis Collection (the double CD with B sides) which appears to be much sought after by China Crisis fans the world over (gloat gloat) - wouldn't part with it for the world. Sorry ....

Would you believe we missed out on their week of residence at Ronnie Scott's in Birmingham. It will take us the whole of Christmas to get over it. Did anyone go? Did they play any new material?

We've also been trying to search for Chinas through Telegraph. Think you can draw a line under that as the label appears to have folded. We are also trying to track down another fabulous Telegraph artist (and also, we believe, a mate of the Chinas) - Thomas Lang. We have every album of his, plus several CD singles and he is FANTASTIC. Please make contact if you have any information on the great man. We would also like to make contact with any Chinas fans.

Bye for now. Ian & Helen Gregory

Hi!

I was just about to submit for a homepage at Geocities... and dedicate it to the greatest group ever when I came upon yours!

And Wow! It's great! Now I will have to come up with another motto for my homepage.

The fact is that CC was pretty popular here in Spain in the early 80's, but nowadays sometimes I feel like being in some sort of island ("China Crisis? Is that some kind of asian folk group?") that's why I decided to create a page devoted to them now that Telegraph's site seems to be down.

See you in the Neighbourhood, and have a happy new year!

P.S: I do also like gin-tonics, I'll take a chance on your WipeOut :)
