The FireRollie.com Guide to Cleveland

As a public service to all of you folks out there coming to Cleveland for any event involving Cleveland State (which includes games, concerts, etc.), I have decided to fill you in on what's going on in Cleveland.

No, I'm not getting a kickback from the Cleveland Visitor's Bureau on this one, and these are my opinions, unbiased and not sponsored by any of the establishments on this page.

So with that said.. Here we go!

Where to Eat, Drink and Shop

Tower City Center
Tower City is pretty much where you will find most of your regular fast-food spots, such as McDonald's, Taco Bell, and KFC. Also, Tower City has countless stores, including the Champs Sports. Sadly for you HL faithful, you won't find any of your gear in there.

Plus, there is a multi-plex theater for you to catch a flick during breaks in the tournament. Here are the movies playing and showtimes.

The Flats
While the Flats has dwindled down to a few bars as of late, there is still some fun to be had. The better eating establishments include Dick's Last Resort (if you have no sense of humor, avoid!) Joe's Crab Shack (for some good seafood and fruity drinks), BW-3 (the best wings in town and a good sports bar environment) and Panini's (one of several locations. Also on E. 9th St. and W. 6th St. in the Warehouse District). For bars, there are Jimmy's, Beach Club (pretty good tunes and 19 and over for the underaged conference folks) and River's Edge. For those of you heading into town on Friday, River's Edge has their Happy Hour with $2.50 24-oz. drafts. Plus, on the West Bank, there's the Power House, which has a huge game room and a T.G.I. Friday's, plus across the parking lot is Jillian's, for those of you with a pool jones.

Warehouse District
This has become the party spot. The Velvet Dog is my personal favorite. Plus, there is Blind Pig, Spy Bar, and Groovee Little Night Club, to name a few. There is a Panini's on the street as well. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Sixth Street Market is open on Saturday for breakfast.

By the CSU Convocation Center
The Rascal House will probably be the first thing you see. Plenty of food, but I wasn't sure about the drinks, though. That's reserved for the bar in the back, Peabody's, which, sadly to say, is booked with concerts on Friday and Saturday. Best Steak and Gyro is on Euclid, but it's an acquired taste. About 4-5 block away from the Convo on E. 18th St., there's Becky's. It's a decent joint, with reasonably-priced drinks and some pretty good food. Also, as it turns out, I missed a couple of spots. There's Moe's, a block from the corner of E. 17th St. and Chester Ave., and Celebrities, which is a new sports bar in the Comfort in across the street from the Convocation Center.
