Who Should be the Next Coach?

OK, the last list of potential Rollie replacements didn't seem to go over very well with the masses. But hey, this is a work in progress. So, amid several coaching changes over the past month or so, I have devised a new group of candidates. Here is a newlist of top 5 FireRollie.com picks to succeed him at the helm.

Tim Floyd
Current Job: Between jobs
Upside: Floyd just finished a horrendous 2 2/1 year stretch as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls. Prior to that, he brought glory to a then-unheralded Iowa State program. His brand of motivation didn't work in the NBA, but CSU certainly could use some of that.
Downside: He may be a little to rich for the Vikes' blood. He just finished making seven figures with the Bulls as a bad coach, so you can almost imagine what kind of price he would fetch in the college ranks. Time to start selling some more advertising around the Convo.
Odds: 25-1. Despite his turn with the Bulls, he's will definitely be the hot ticket in NCAA coaching.

Homer Drew
Current Job: Head Coach, Valparaiso
Upside: Homer Drew led the Crusaders to a record six straight NCAA tournaments, and this from a conference CSU bolted from because of its lack of status, the Mid-Con. And Drew can do something that Rollie, or any other CSU coach for that matter, can't do: Keep his athletes eligible.
Downside: Too much hometown pride. Drew signed a long-term deal with Valpo to pretty much keep him there for life. Plus, in a tight-knit community like Valpo, Drew might be a little apprehensive to uproot his family.
Odds: 100-1. Good luck trying to get Homer to come 5 hours east.

Jeff Meyer
Current Job: Assitant Coach, Butler
Upside: Along with Tood Lickliter, Meyer may very well be responsible for the quick start for Butler. Meyer has over 22 years coaching experience, and led Liberty University to an NCAA bid in 1994 before joining the staff at Winthrop, where he was an associate head coach during their three consecutive NCAA bids. He also was on the coaching staff of the 1980 Purdue Final Four squad.
Downside: Meyer doesn't really have a downside, except for the fact his squad has had the most head-coaching vacancies in the last three years. Any further success will certainly make Meyer a hot commodity.
Odds: 10-1. Get this guy now!

Matt Doherty
Current Job: Head Coach, North Carolina
Upside: Doherty turned a sad-sack Notre Dame program into a contender, and it seems that after this season, he's going to be looking for a new job. And after his experience with the Tar Heels, there aren't going to be a lot of takers. In fact, nobody would touch this guy with a 10-foot pole, except Cleveland State.
Downside: Convincing him to not fall off the face of the earth once UNC drops him like a bad habit. Plus, there may still be a lot of interest in him, even though he did put Tar Heel hoops back about 50 years.
Odds: 50-1. Go Heels!

Brian Gregory
Current Job: Asst. Coach, Michigan State
Upside: It's about time this guy is due for a head coaching job. He masterminded 1999-2000's top recruiting class, and has been around for all of the Spartans' successes in the past 2 1/2 years, including being tabbed as the nation's best assistant coach by Basketball News. The time has come...
Downside: The only problem is CSU's previous experience with a hot-shot assistant coach from a Big Ten school: Mike Boyd. But let's not let previous experience get us down...
Odds: 5-1. Let's just hope this guy is looking for a job!

No matter who you think is the best guy for the job, one thing is certain... It's better than Rollie!
