Imbolg
(February 2)

Imbolc is a time to celebrate fresh beginnings. The earliest blooms begin to appear. Farm animals give birth to their first young. As the wheel of the year continues to turn, the first signs of spring's arrival bring new hope for all.

Traditionally, all virgin goddesses are celebrated at Imbolc. Brighid is perhaps the most commonly named however. She is a fire goddess, the patron of creative minds. Brighid is also a goddess of healing.

Christianity has it's own holiday, Candlemas, which replaced the Celtic Imbolg celebration. Saint Brighid is, in fact, an important saint in the Catholic Church. In northern North America, Groundhog Day is also celebrated on February 2nd.

Celebration Suggestions

  • Make and consecrate candles for use over the next year.
  • Burn the pine boughs which decorated your home at Yule.
  • Spend some time outdoors, looking for new growth and early signs of spring.
  • Imbolg is also a good time for spring cleaning. Take this time to cleanse your home and also your spirit.
  • Positive magickal endeavours and those for protection should be undertaken.
