Déagian Gár Wulfhund
... time will tell, when the inner wolf awakens

History

Déagian Gár Wulfhunds (aka DGWs) originated from the Saxon's dreams about Wolves. Their version of the wolf was fierce, and when mixed with other races dreamtime wolves, became the wolves that we find on earth today. But you see, unlike some dreamtime residents, wolves have always had the ability to go in and out of dreamtime. But man was beginning to breed wolves to their preferences, creating the first dogs. The residents of dreamtime were very interested in this, and so set to work breeding their own 'dogs'. This is how the first DGWs were created. Using mostly the dreamtime wolves from the Saxons and Wolves of the Tundra, they soon started to create what was to be the 'missing link' between dreamtime wolves and the mortal huskies of today. Huskies were cast into the mortal world, for they felt the ties to the earth and wished to go. The DGWs stayed behind, and became the Dreamtime Huskys, in a way.

Basic Apperence

DGWs basically look like, well, wolves with manes or mohawks. They were breed into the colors that you find most commonly on huskies, however, their manes retained some of the mythical colors of their dreamtime wolf relatives. After all, dreamtime wolves can be both the colors of wolves that we see on earth and mythical, wild, and crazy colors. ONLY the mohawks are strange colors though. They rarely ever have mutations, and the mutations they do have are fairly crippling.

Habitat

Honestly, the only real habitat they can live in is the blistering cold. Tundra is about as warm as it can get, but they prefer something close to the icy wastelands of Antartica. Their fur is perfectly made for the bitter cold, similar to a huskey, but even more intence. The bright colors on their mohawks helps them track eachother in horrible storms. There are times when they need warmth, and in that case, they either seek the shelter of their kennel house, or dig a hole in the ground to keep them away from most of the blistering cold. They don't really have much in the way of territories, other then what are the bounderies of their kennel, but they do defend it ferociously.

Diet

DGWs are definatly carnivorous. However, you can't just throw them a bowl of kibble. They need actual raw food. Any slab of meat will do, however, sometimes they really need some sort of stimulation with their food (because, after all, they are decendents of dreamtime wolves). Sometimes hiding the meat is enough. Other times you may be forced to buy live creatures for them to hunt. Like most wolves, dreamtime or mortal, they need to suppliment their diet with some berries and grass every now and again, but nothing that would label them as omnivorous.

Breeding

There are such thing as wild DGWs, but in a way they are more like feral dogs. They form packs with the usual alpha male and female, and also have a beta pairing. They will have pack members, and an omega as well. They pretty much act like wolves when they are out in the wild. However, while they have strong ties to their wolf sides, they are never really happy until they are in the care of humans, much like dogs. Humans garentee a home and food and water, things that in their landscape can be very hard to find and maintain ownership over. When they are in a Kennel they create a psudo pack, but in reality, the humans taking care of them will always be their alpha.

A DGW bitch can have as many as 4-6 puppies. In extremely strange and rare litters, there can be anywhere from 1-9. Mother DGW are extremely protective of their babies, not even allowing the human caretaker near them. In order to properly take care of puppies, it is often the case that the human caretaker needs to tranquilize the mother so they can take a look at the pups. Within the litter, there is an equal chance of males and females, as well as steriles. Usually steriles are born female or male, they just for some reason can't produce offspring. Baby DGW look all the same until about 1 year of age. That is also about the time they are able to leave the kennel to be sold or given to other loving owners.

Names

Because DGW cannot speak, they cannot give names to eachother. It is often the human caretaker that gives a DGW a name to keep track of them. It is not uncommon that within Kennels you will see them with Old English or Anglo Saxon names, as it is a tradition. However, english names are also acceptible. Kennel DGW names will usually have the prefix of the kennel it came from first, and then some words. Kennel DGW also have call names, which will be used most often. The name of the actual kennel can have either English words or Old English/Anglo-Saxon words, and end in Kennel.

Behavior

DGWs cannot speak any language spoken by humans. This was completely breed out of them, to make them more like dogs. They also cannot mindspeak any language spoken by humans. They communicate with a system of barks, growls, howls, and other such canine like vocalization that we see on earth. Because they are not sentient beings, they are ruled by instinct, and because of this, cannot be aligned with anything good or evil. They are simply neutral, and do what they need to survive, and insure the survival of their pack or kennel. However, you should never treat them like they are just ordinary dogs. While they act alot like dogs, they have a wolf side to, and that should never be forgoten. Wild animals will always be wild, and DGW have a very definate wild side to them. Males tend to be a little more aggressive then females because they are usually the 'pack' or kennel runners of the animals, but you should never underestimate the power of a female either. It's not rare to see some with scars, especially those that would amount to an Omega. In the wild, they do not have names, but instead tell one from the other by their mane. No two manes are the same, sorta like a thumb print. DGWs, despite the fact that they are not sentient, do have personalitys. Some can be more outgoing, while some can be very shy, some can be sneeky with food, while others seem to be fairly honest, etc. It is very very very rare to see any with mutations, unlike their wolf counterparts, and they are often very crippling. DGWs can have personality disorders such as depression and anxiety, and can also be born with birth defects.
