Why Should I Create An Official Kennel?DGW tend to be happier in a kennel vs the wild, and so for one, you would be making your DGW feel alot more comfortible. [OOC: When you page them randomly, and not in the advised kennel layout, they are still considered 'wild' in a way.] It is also a nice and neat way to keep track of them all, especially the more frisky or agressive ones that might give you a hard time in any other circumstance. For those of you interested in puppies, that will also not be able to happen unless the DGW feels completely safe. A DGW will not breed unless they are in an official kennel. How Do I Make One?An acceptible official kennel has at least 5 very important things. Two (or more), of course, are the the individual 'pens' [Read: Pages] for the male and female DGW. You are free to keep males in the same pen, and females in another pen, or to have individual pens for each DGW you own, but it is VERY important that you do not place males and females in the same pens. The reason for this is because this increases the risk of overbreeding and even death of a DGW. [OOC: basically, don't page males and females together.] Another thing that is very important if you would like to have an official kennel is to have information and records of your kennel. These things include a Mission Statement (you know, what you are trying to do with your kennel), how your studding and brodding works as well as the rates (if studding and brodding is avalible at your kennel that is, if not just say that it is not avalible), it is important also to have the statistics of your kennel as well as additional information about who runs the kennel and what colors you breed etc, and you must also have your official kennel certificate visible. Be sure that when you mention the statistics of the kennel that you include the numbers of Breeders, Retireds, Waitings, and Sterile DGW. Last but certainly not least, you MUST have litter records. Litter records are very important, for both other adopters to see the quality of your kennel, and to keep track of the population of DGW. Every litter you have must be documented, and you must include the address to the DGW's new kennel. [OOC: basically you MUST have a parents list for all the litters that are born at your kennel, were you link to each of the DGWs pages. This is BEYOND NESSESARY. This is because I will not be working on a parents list, so this will be the only way to keep track of ALL the DGW.] What are Breeder DGW, Retired DGW, Waiting DGW, and Sterile DGW?There are many different types of DGW within a Kennel, and they are labeled either Breeder, Retired, Waiting, and Sterile. Sterile is fairly self explainitory. The DGW, either from birth or from being fixed, these DGW will not be able to breed. Some people see this as very unfavorible, but to be honest, most steriles end up being wonderful pets! Breeder is also a fairly easy title to understand. These are the DGW within a kennel that breed. There can only be a max amount of 8 breeders within a kennel before it reaches the status of a Farm. Farms are illegal. Which leads us into Waitings. Waiting DGW are DGW within a Kennel who are not considered breeders, but are also not fixed. They are waiting for one of the 8 breeders to be retired before assuming their own status as Breeders. Under NO circumstances are Waitings aloud to breed. Breeders become retired after breeding 6 times or less (if a keeper wants to retire them early). This is law, because DGW will become overbred otherwise, and their quality of life will be greatly comprimised. Overbreeding can also lead to early death amoung DGW. Retired DGW are those DGW that were once Breeders, but retired so that either a waiting could assume it's place, or because they have reached their maximum breeding amount. Once a DGW is retired, it cannot become 'unretired'. Some see this as unfavorible as Steriles, but Retireds tend to be even better pets then Steriles! DGW can make wonderful pets, and they should never be overlooked. How Do I Get My Hands on An Official Kennel Certificate?Every now and again there will be avaliblities for the Official Kennel Certificate. The one giving them out will look over your kennel and make sure that it is acceptible before giving you your certificate for a small fee. [ Top ]
