John G. Hooper

John G. Hooper a.k.a. Armando a.k.a. Keoni

Twenty eight years of experience Vocals, electric 4 string fretless/fretted bass.

Born in Waipahu, O'ahu, the 50th State of Hawaii. My first musical influence was my grandmother (tutu). She played the ukulele and sang at a local social club. At our house you heard everything from Connie Francis, The Sons of Hawaii, Tito Puente, the Four Amigos to Basie & Ellington. Then came Elvis the Pelvis....tutu let me have her student ukulele....I was about 3 or 4 years old & HOOKED. Used to sing/play Elvis tunes for the local merchants.......never ever paid for a haircut! Then came the Beatles, Stax Volt, Motown, The Sound of Philadelphia.... I became a lead vocalist with a heavy thirst for DRUMS... A few DAYS after, my Mother mandated "you shall be a guitarist". After honing my guitar skills I played with "The Strollers" a popular local band at many military bases & teen night spots. At 18, I switched to electric bass out of necesity (band's bass player was drafted). I marveled at having the melodic & rhythmic power to drive an entire band......HOOKED AGAIN! Into my 20's I continued to play with "The Strollers" all over the West coast, Northwest, Alaska and Canada. (All along the way heavily influenced by Duck Dunn, James Jamerson, Larry Graham, Stanley Clark, Ron Carter & Eddie Gomez.....just a few of many more!)

Moved back to Hawaii in 76' until 80..... Then came JACO.............FOREVER HOOKED!

Played with many great local acts including Hawaii's premier Jazz/Classical Pianist Rene Paulo who also played host to: Richard Page (Pages/Mr.Mr.), Stephan Stills, Mike White (drums), Michael Paulo (saxaphone:Al Jarreau), Kimo Cornwell (keyboards:Hiroshima), Armando Peraza (percussion:Santana)

Moved to Los Angeles, CA in 80' until 90'... Played with the Jim Gibson Band at Six Flags Valencia CA for 9 years..

Also played/jammed around town with Jim Keltner, Frank Riccard, Albert Lee, Chuck Berry, recorded with Jim Gibson & other artists and managed to study for a short time with Bunny Brunel along the way! Moved to Atlanta in 90'.......

Currently working as bassist/vocalist with THE LEAGUE OF DECENCY aka MONDO HEPTET. I can also be seen playing around town with blues guitarist Wayne "Bear" Sauls (of Eric Quincy Tate fame).

It's a GAS working the Forcast Project........solid tunes...great musicains....Lots of room for being "Armando".....
