When completed the frames were sent out to be upholstered and were returned just in time for her birthday.

In the pictures you can see some of the details of the finished chairs.  The arm cushions are held in place with ties to the stretchers which form the arms.  To offset the top stretcher, a pillow block was glued to the back leg, and the top of the front leg was shaped into an inverted L.

This project was completed as a birthday gift for my wife about 5 years ago. The frames were in the final stages of dry fitting when this photograph was taken. Note that the center front leg on the sofa had not been trimmed to final length.

The  stock consisting of hard maple in 4/4 and 8/4 sizes was purchased in the rough and prepared on the X-31.  The bent rails along the top are laminated from 6 layers of thin stock.  The arrow back spindles, including the 3/4" round portion  were shaped using off the shelf cutters.  The turnings for the legs and arms were all turned on the small Delta lathe shown on the machines page.
