What is the Gambit Guild?

The Gambit Guild is an Internet discussion list established for the express purpose of allowing fans of the X-Men's Gambit to discuss the character and things related to the character. The Guild is a voluntary body made up of its members and presided over by a president elected yearly by the Guild members, a vice-president (also elected yearly) and an operating council of volunteers chosen at the discretion of the president and vice-president.

What is the President's role?

The President is responsible for organizing the group and keeping it viable in terms of how it operates, including: choosing a listserver, attracting and helping members, mediating Guild disputes, and developing and enforcing the Guild policies and guidelines. Guild structure, policies and guidelines can only be changed by the Guild president after notification of the Guild members of said changes and a vote on the changes. Other responsibilities can include special Guild activities/projects like birthday clubs, contests, a web page, etc. or assistance to Guild volunteers performing any Guild projects.

It is always the responsibility of the president to handle such controversial main functions of the office as enforcing policies, etc. and these cannot be delegated to volunteers with the exception of the VP or Council member for a specific time period while the president is away.

If the president cannot fulfill their duties, they should notify the VP and Guild and step down from the position so a new President can take over.

What does the Vice-President do?

The Vice-President (VP) is responsible for assisting the president in these functions and taking on any Guild activities or projects on a voluntary basis.

What role does the Guild Council perform?

The Council is a two to three member group chosen by the President and Vice-President out of Guild Volunteers (members who have volunteered for specific Guild projects) to manage voting for officer positions and to take over and maintain the Guild in the event that both leave close to the same time or both become unreachable for an extended period of time or in the event of an emergency such as the list going down in the immediate future when neither officer can be reached. For general purposes, an extended period of time will be considered three months where the officer cannot be reached to address issues by any means.

Council appointments are subject to change at any time with only a notification to the Guild.

Officer Voting:

Every October, a vote will be taken for the new Guild President.

During the first 15 days of the month, the presidential candidates are chosen from the nominations of other members and the acting president and vice-president. All candidates must then accept the nominations. There are no term limits and the President and VP can run for and hold the position as long as they and the Guild agree.

Votes will be accepted during the next 15 days of the month by all the council members (i.e. voters should send their votes to all the council members) and counted and the winner will be announced on October 31st.

The VP will be the nominee with the second highest number of votes. Any ties will be determined by a one week run off the first week of November between the top two candidates. The council will also use this one month method to replace the President or VP should they both step down or disappear. Should only one leave, the remaining officer would be the President (unless they decline) and a new VP should be voted in.

Matt Murdock Statement: The Gambit Guild is not an official fansite, and, as such, is not endorsed by Marvel. Nonetheless, we do acknowledge our debt to them for creating such a wonderful character and would not dream of making any profit from him other than the enrichment of our imaginations. All textual content on the site is, however, property of the Gambit Guild. If you wish to use it on your own site, please ask. We'll only be to happy to help.
