This is our Religion Center where we
gather for prayers, Bible stories, and prayer services.
Some of the traditional prayers we learn in the Second Grade are
the Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, Glory Be, and the Act of
Contrition.
On our Prayer Wall the students can write the names of the
people they would like to pray for each week. We celebrate the
Church Seasons such as Advent and Lent, as well as the holy days and
feast days of our Church. |

The Daily Letter is a
language arts lesson. Each
day I write the letter to the students and when they come in they read
the letter to find out what we will be doing in class for that day.
At our Morning Meeting we gather and find rhyming words, compound
words, vowel sounds, or any other skills we are working on that day.
The students also learn the five parts of a letter, how to write
a letter, and correct sentence structure.

Our
Calendar Area is also part of our morning Meeting.
The dinosaurs show the days of the week including yesterday,
today, and tomorrow. On the Money Board students show the number of days in school
and the date in coins. Our
Schedule Chart helps the students know our daily schedule and how to
tell time using the clocks. At
the beginning of the year we review telling time to the hour and
half-hour. In about a month
we will begin telling time to the five-minute mark.
We also have a Weather Chart and at the end of each month we make
a bar graph showing the weather results for the month.
At the end of the school year each student has their own
"Weather Graph Book."

This computer is used by the students for their Accelerated Reader tests.
Each students reads an AR book and takes the AR test independently
each day. After January many
students will begin reading chapter books so they will take an AR test
once a week. We do go to the
school computer lab twice a week to practice our computer skills.

Our Listening Center provides the students with the opportunity to work
on their reading and listening skills.
The students like to listen to stories from their reader and
books that I have taped for them. They also listen to Marie Carbo books to develop
comprehension skills.

This is our class "Poet-Tree".
The students enjoy "picking a poem from the tree to share with
their classmates. Our first poems on the tree were all about the new
school year. The theme of the
poems changes once a month. Hopefully
during the month every student has read all 15 poems on the tree.
We use this along with our class "Poetry Pages".

This
is a picture of our reading corner.
Students choose books depending on the theme or unit of study.
The Accelerated Reader books are also on the shelf for the
students to choose for D.E.A.R. Time or for homework. |

Here's a picture of our author bookcase.
The students can read different books written by the different
authors we are studying in class. On
the top of the bookcase you can see my book character collection.
The students enjoy reading to them throughout the year.

This
is our Student of the Week board. Our
theme is "You are a gift from God".
A student is chosen each week.
When they bring in their five items from home they tell about the
special items and then they display them on the "Me Museum"
shelf for the day. On the
board I include their photo, a letter from me, their own gift box paper
that lists their talents/gifts they share, and their "WOW
Words" paper with words that their classmates have written about
them. Each day we open the
"Gold Box" on the board to reveal God's gift to us.
(They see their reflection in the mirror that's in the box and
the class says, "You are a gift
from God".)
