St. Nicholas Day Poem

Holy Bishop St. Nicholas lived faraway
Near the Aegean Sea is where Turkey did lay.
Travel back with us now to a time long ago.
We will visit his country, his life we will know.

We remember this saint, such a holy, good man.
Be like him in charity, do all that you can.
Many miracles Nicholas hastened to do
Helping beggars in need with some gifts that were new.

Bishop Nicholas traveled to Nicea town,
Where the Creed would be Written, to us handed down.
During Mass every Sunday, we stand for the Creed.
Thank you Bishop St. Nicholas, for doing this deed.

Sailors tossed in the wind and the storms of the sea,
Saw a vision of Nicholas who guided them free.
Now their patron of sailing, they remember him yet.
Many icons and pictures with a fisherman's net.

Giving money to poor girls, so marry could they,
Made our Nicholas famous, remembered today.
With their dowry in hand, off they went to wed.
" God bless you and keep you," St. Nicholas said.

Kid's patron in Germany, Netherlands, too.
Asks that presents be given to children like you.
Customs there are quite different; they put out their shoes
Filling them with great toys. His coming's good news!

Here stockings are hung by the chimney with care,
In hope that St. Nicholas soon will come there.
Dressed as bishop or Santa, He's one and the same
Jolly, friendly, good man we're glad that he came.

Call him "Santa" or "saint," they both mean the same.
For his nickname is Claus, short for Nicholas's name.
Giving gifts was his custom which we still do today.
Presents given in Jesus' name forever will stay.

Bishop Nicholas still is a hero to all.
Christmas Day, and all others we follow his call.
Bringing gifts and some joy to all children in need.
Follow Nicholas today, and do a good deed.

What can I give Him
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would give Him a lamb.
If I were a wise man
I would do my part
Yet what can I give Him?
Give Him My Heart.

The Angel Story

Group 1:    Off on the hillside of Bethlehem,
Down came the soft falling snow.
O, the prettiest baby, the holiest baby,
                That we shall ever Know.

Angels:      We saw Him, We saw Him.
                 We knelt beside His bed.
We smelled the freshness of the straw and smoothed it
                 round His head.
We saw His mother, His lovely Mother!
We huddled at her knees and begged her "Let us hold Him,
                 We'll be so careful, Please!"

Group1:      But His lovely Mother Mary, Our lovely Queen, dear Mary,
                 Shook her head and said,

Mary:        "I think you littlest angels had better wait awhile."

Angels:       But o' children, o' children, o' come this Christmas Day,
with open arms to hold this Babe, for His Mother says you may.
O' come to Mary, come to Mary and you'll find Jesus, too.
For Mary's waiting by the manger, to give her child to you.

Group1:      We are coming little angels, we are coming.
We shall tiptoe in the stable door and next to Mother Mary
                  kneel down upon the floor.

All:             O' Prince of Peace, O' little King!
I give myself to thee. And thank you Mother Mary,
Upon this Christmas Day, for giving Christ to me.
