While
it's true that Gategoers is not the sort of list that requires
'moderating' it does require List Moms, if only to keep track of the ideas,
suggestions and conversations that the List generates. Gategoers
has six List Moms and all will be attending Vancouver in September 2002 - and
will be participating in many, if not all, of the events and adventures conjured
up by this enthusiastic list. Just so that you can get to know us, know
which areas we've bravely taken on as our 'specialty' (if you need advice
or information regarding that area) this page has been created as a
'meet-n-greet-us' page. In alphabetical order, I introduce you to your
List Moms....

Hey, there! I'm a Gategoer
from way back. When I jumped into this fandom, I dove in head-first,
aiming straight for Gatecon. And my timing
couldn't have been better. Slida had just started her Gategoers
list at roughly the same time. I saw her invitation to join posted on
another list, and I immediately answered the call.
All the Gategoers were new to Gatecon at the time, because Gatecon itself was brand-new, so the list was loaded with talk about our plans and expectations for the con itself, for Vancouver, and for meeting this group of folks called Gategoers who seemed to form an instant bond. Even now, three years later, Gategoers are special. It's been said time and again on the list, and it really is true: Gategoers are family! But this is supposed to be my own bio, isn't it, rather than a history of the Gategoers? Okay then, about me.... Well, I'm from the Motor City. Though I was born and raised in Ford country (Dearborn, Michigan), my father worked for Chrysler, so I suppose I was always destined to be somewhat apart from the norm. I spent most of my life deep in thought, philisophically searching for what Daniel so brilliantly described as "meaning of life stuff". When I found Stargate SG-1, I began to experience a sort of evolution. After joining the fandom, my deep thoughts began to merge with amusing, even nonsensical ones. I soon found myself writing both dramatic fics and silly filks, and having more fun than I'd had in years! I found the filks to be a pleasant diversion from the stresses of everyday life, and friends on the lists seemed to enjoy them too - so, I created the Songs of the Chaapa'ai web site to share them with whomever would read them. Songs of the Chaapa'ai evolved into www.u-n-a-s.com (the Unofficial Net Archives of Stargate), and I evolved into someone who could be both serious and silly!

QS here. English
born and bred, thirty-going-on-five years old, convention veteran and
newly appointed Listmum on GateGoers!
Suffice to say I do have a RL job but it would bore you rigid if I told
you. It does me, so...
I first came into
the SG-1 fandom about two and a half years ago after seeing One False
Step, a truly wonderful episode. From there - having never even heard
the terms whumping, h/c and angst - I decided to get on the internet and
find out if anyone else liked the Danny character as much as I did.
I had never joined a mailing list and little did I realise that when I
stumbled upon the DANIELites it
would bring me a group of friends whose loyalty, love and caring has
seen me through the toughest time of my life.
And then
there's GateGoers.
This will be my third year at GateCon and I'm looking forward to it even
more. Each year, I'm privileged to work with Slida (owner of the DAN's
and the GateGoers)
as part of the Stage Crew and boy, does that job come with perks!
Alongside this, I also get to work with my partner-in-crime Sekh on
Sekh's Party, the pre-convention party that gets everyone
talking.
If you want to
know who we are when you get to GateCon,
just look for the room that has the '"Bedlam Inc." sign taped
on the door or the people singing "Row, Row, Row Your
Boat" in the lobby or the last people out of the bar! That'll
be the posse.... <bg>

Hello
there :)
First some dry statistics: I'm 25 I come from Israel (and yes we do have camels but, remarkably, we do not ride them to school), I work as a computer programmer and this will be my 3rd time at GateCon. If your asking yourself "why should I come to GateCon?" then I got the answer for you - to meet the greatest bunch of people you will ever meet, and have the time of your life! When I first decided to come to GateCon (way way back in 2000) there was a huge part of me that was petrified from the decision, here I was - young, naive (yes...I was naive back then *sigh*) and alone -travelling to a distant country when English is not my first language and I didn't know anyone who was going to be there. and a small post in a sg-1 related list saved my life. I joined GateGoers and a new world of fun and great friends was revealed to me (Well it wasn't that dramatic but you get my drift) so if you are coming to GateCon, then join the list and meet us ,you wont regret it... much :) I promise... we'll behave! Shalom will be with you! ~ Rav

Hi there, my friend... Contrary to popular belief we Australian's do not always say "G'day.." so I'll probably greet you with a squeal of delight, a hug and then babble at you incessantly. Sound inviting? If so, be sure to come up to me at the Con and introduce yourself!!!! I'd LOVE to meet you. Last year I had the incredible bonus of being one of the Backstage hands during Gatecon. While it was a lot of hard work and dedication to contribute that much of the con time to the 'volunteer' position I really enjoyed it immensely and look forward to working within that capacity again this year. In fact, I'll be even busier and more run off my feet as I become Allan Gowen's Right Hand Man (Oops, well.. you know :) I'm totally thrilled to be offered this incredible chance of being so integrated with the Con and the Guests this year, and have set it as my personal task to make Allan get MORE sleep (or should that be get SOME sleep) during the Con this year!!! Last year I was also entrusted with the last-minute running of the Charity Auction. You know the one, the one where all the guests were on stage and I had to be up there in the thick of it..*sighs dramatically* Tough job but someone had to do it, eh? Actually it was a LOT of laughs, a wonderful opportunity to work alongside the fantastic guests we had and so much fun that when asked to do it again this year, I actually said, "Yeah, sureyabetcha!" With more time for preparations, you can be sure the Auction will run a little differently this time, but the fun will remain the same, I'm sure so save all your pennies and I'll see you at the Auction!!!!! ~Slida |
