The Home Theater

For the true home theater enthusiast, we recommend a large room. The bigger the better since smaller rooms tend to keep the sound bouncing and bouncing again from wall to wall, eliminating the purpose of directional sound output which is what surround sound is about. A Bigger room will let sound dissipate and not stay cramped together. Then again, the bigger the room means the more powerful speakers you require(sub in particular). The bottom line is get speakers that fit your room. It doesn't matter where you really put the Subwoofers because they are omnidirectional(outputs sounds in different directions), but we recommend that one puts it just behind the listener for an enhanced effect. This provides maximum efficiency and "Felt" Bass.

The Central Speakers should always be mounted on top of the TV. The main speakers should be placed a minimum of 8 feet from the listener and at least 8 feet apart. They should not, however, be apart more than twice the distance from the listener to the speakers or else it will create a sonic gap( which is bad in stereo systems).

The Surround Speakers should not be placed far behind the listener( especially if you have Dolby Surround ). They should be placed approx. 4 to 8 feet behind the listener. For Dolby Surround, we recommend the speakers to be apart, 1 1/2 times its distance from the listener. For Dolby Digital, we recommend 1 1/2 - 2 times this distance apart.

As soon as more Dolby/THX EX systems are marketed, we'll give you the general locations of their speakers.
