Beef Jerky Bible Studies

The new Christian is often a voracious reader of the bible.
The overpowering desire to understand who God is, what we should do
to please him, and to know the historical nature of Christianity
often results in a speed reading approach. The wisdom that comes
from meditating on the Word of God is replaced by a quick, shallow
understanding of what is being communicated. It's a lot like eating
a roast that was cooked in the microwave: it satisfies your hunger,
but there was no flavor to savor. It's fast and easy, but did you
really enjoy it? This can be contrasted with beef jerky which is
slow-cooked in a smoker with smoldering hickory or mesquite wood
adding a unique flavor to the beef. After a day or two, the jerky
is ready to eat. It can't be wolfed down, but is meant to be chewed
slowly to bring out all of the flavor. So it is with the word of
God. We should read it slowly, savoring the richness that can be
found there. These "beef jerky" bible studies are meant to take the
reader to a deeper understanding of the bible, thus bringing us
closer to our Creator.
If you are ready for solid spiritual food (unlike the audience of
Paul's second letter to the Corinthians in Chapter 3) then I
encourage you to give these studies a try.
