Bart Allen lay on his back staring at nothing in particular. His left arm rested over his stomach and his right was lazily at his side. Hardly blinking his amber eyes, his gaze flickered across the sky. The spring day was warm and the slight breeze that occasionally surfaced was refreshing and blended into the day's peaceful atmosphere. It was a rare time of peace and quiet for the teen superhero.
Pennsylvania and the rest of the world seemed to be on crisis hiatus at the moment, and with nothing interesting to do and nowhere better to go, Bart (of all people) was content just to stay still. His eyes searched the sky until they found something new of interest. He turned his head to the right and tapped his friend on the shoulder.
Kon-El who was lying at a near perfect ninety degree angle, looked upwards as Bart pointed to the sky. They'd been at this for a while and as of yet, they hadn't become bored. Truth be told, Kon wasn't exactly sure how or why they started it. No matter, it still had an oddly peaceful allure about it.
"What about that one?" Bart asked and he pointed to a specific spot in the air.
Kon followed his friend's line of vision, looked at the object in question for a moment, then cocked his head to just to be sure. With absolute certainty, he made his claim, "Rabbit."
Bart nodded slightly. "Yeah, I can see that. The one next to it is a guitar, I think. You know, one of those cool ones that you can just jam on."
"Hmm..." Kon pondered. "Nope, definitely a rabbit."
"You've been saying that the last ten times," Bart lightly criticized. "Try harder."
"It looks like a rabbit. Maybe a soup bowl with a spoon. I'm not seeing a guitar though. Let's face it, most just don't look like anything at all." Kon shrugged as much as he was able to without moving from his comfortable spot on the grass. His hands were folded beneath his neck propping his head up a bit.
"It doesn't even look remotely like a rabbit," Bart argued.
"Well, maybe a rabbit with an ear missing?" Kon tried weakly.
Bart squinted trying to get a better look at the dissipating form. "You might have a point there." He watched as the forms shifted and changed ever so casually and he was trying pick out the next one for contention and debate when a shadow fell upon him.
"So this is where you two have been hiding," Cassie Sandsmark remarked as she finished her long trudge up the hill. She looked at her friends sprawled out on the grass looking completely and utterly content and unmotivated. She frowned when they didn't turn or move to acknowledge her. Instead, they greeted her lazily.
"Hi Cass," Bart gave a short wave in her direction which happened to be directly behind him, sort of. She blocked the sun.
"Hey." Kon nodded to his right, then turned to look back at the sky. He picked out a form then turned towards Bart. "The one next to your guitar," he specified. "What do you think?" he asked. "Rabbit with both ears down?"
"I don't think so," Bart frowned. In truth, he sort of thought it looked like a guy with one of those flat French hat thingies, he just couldn't remember what it was called.
Cassie crossed her arms in confusion and frustration. "What are you guys--" but she cut herself off as she looked upwards. She tilted her head. "Wow. Cool. It looks like Snoopy," she proclaimed. "Very Snoopy."
"Snoopy?" Bart repeated obviously confused.
"Yeah," Cassie reiterated as she sat down to Kon's right.
Lost, Kon just shrugged and murmured, "Sure. Okay."
Cassie lay on the ground next to him, her eyes cast upwards. "Snoopy," she tried to convince them. "Sunday comic strips that's been in newspapers from now since we've been kids. C'mon. Joe Cool. Charlie Brown. Woodstock. Peanuts comics. *Snoopy*."
Kon frowned a bit sourly. Cadmus never did Sunday comics. "Sorry," he said a bit defensively.
Bart sat up and turned completely around to face Cass. "Missed that one."
"Well, it looks like Snoopy." Cassie crossed her arms across her chest.
Kon turned to look at his friend a mischievous grin already on his face. "What do you think, Bart? Is it Snoopy? Is it *so* Snoopy?"
Bart smiled. "Only if Snoopy's a rabbit. With both ears down. What about you Kon, Snoopy?"
"Rabbit all the way," said Kon with a smirk.
"Fine," Cassie huffed. "We're all a bit old to be doing this anyway." But she didn't move to get up and storm off. It was strangely peaceful and mesmerizing just relaxing and thinking and she hadn't done since she was a kid. "That one looks like a Lifesaver," she commented and pointed directly overhead. "That would be the candy you know."
Bart looked where she was pointing. "We know, but you're wrong. That's my ring, or Kon's doughnut, but I guess it could be a Lifesaver too. We can be flexible like that."
"You guys have been doing this for a while," Cassie realized, "haven't you?"
Sitting slightly up, so he could count off the numbers on his hand Kon recited. "Sixteen rabbits, two guitars, one spaceship, one ice cream cone or upside down pyramid, and now a ring or a doughnut or a Lifesaver."
"A Lifesaver?" a new voice broke in. Rob looked at his teammates critically. So they weren't doing anything wrong. There wasn't really any risk because for miles the land was owned by Wayne Enterprises. And besides, "It's very quiet today. Red Tornado said he'd contact us if something was up, then he pushed me outside."
"Out into the fresh air, eh Rob?" Kon grinned and waved behind him.
"Grab some grass and relax," Cassie asserted. She turned to her right and watched as Rob settled himself down. All four teens lay like the spokes of a wheel, with their heads in the center so they could observe the clouds from a similar perspective.
"Check that one out," Bart pointed upwards. "It looks like a snowman with a broom."
"Nah, that looks like Woodstoock," Rob said. "It would go along with Snoopy over there."
"Ha!" Cassie retorted because she was fairly certain that Rob thought of that one all by himself and that just, y'know earned her validation. Not to mention bragging rights.
"Snowman," Kon protested. "And that one could be a rocket. But it hasn't been launched it's still on the pad."
"Almost looks like that piano that the Lucy's crush was always playing," persistently sticking to her Peanuts theme.
"And the holding clamps haven't been disengaged," Bart commented to Kon.
"Schroeder. That was his name," Rob said.
"Yep, they're just waiting for final clearance," Kon said. "Check that one out," and he pointed to the sky again.
"Looks like a cotton ball," Rob commented.
"Or cotton candy," Cassie added.
Bart shook his head. "Nah. It's just a cloud, right Kon?"
"Absolutely. Just a cloud."
