The Adventures of Jennifer Bear pg.2

FEBRUARY AND MARCH 2003 (TROOP 1734)

Well I have certainly been busy since I have been visiting Troop 1734. The girls have taken me all over the place. My first outing was to the service unit cookie delivery at Rainier View Elementary. I have never seen so many cookies in my life. I was amazed to see how fast the cookies came and then they were gone!!! After all the cookies were distributed I got to on the slide and the swings!!!

The next place I got to go was the Sweethearts Dance. The girls all looked so nice and all dressed up and boy do they have some great parents!! I even got to go for a whirl around the dance floor. It was truly a night to remember.

I really enjoyed helping Troop 1733 with their bridging activity. I enjoyed learning songs and eating ice cream. I never would have guessed that Brownie sundaes could be so sticky. Did you know some people can tie a knot in a cherry stem with their tongue?

Some of the girls in Troop 1734 took me to their soccer game. They play on a tram called the Sunrays. That soccer ball really moves fast on the girls. It was really neat when they scored a goal. All the parents went crazy!! They won their game and everyone tossed me in the air!! I even got a treat at the end.

I attended Thinking Day at Sea-Tac Mall and learned about Girl Scouts and Guides all over the world!. I did not know that Girl Scouts is the largest woman's organization in the world. I really liked seeing all of the great posters and displays. I think I would like to visit a troop in another country someday. I may like to go to Australia. I think I have some of family living there.

I had a great time selling cookies with the girls. We went to a lot of stores and talked to a tremendous amount of people. It was really great to see so many people give boxes of cookies to the gift of caring. Troop 1734's cookies are going to the soldiers. We had some parents of soldiers give money to us. They would talk about their sons and daughters; it was really hard not to cry. They were worried about them. We made a list of the soldiers and we will be keeping them in our prayers. We think everyone who is serving our country in the military is a hero. The radio station KLSY came and we gave our cookies to Operation Cookie Drop. The troop had fun collecting 444 boxes of cookies from Federal Way to send to the troops. We couldn't believe how early we had to get up to be there, 5am!! Starbucks gave us cocoa and coffee for our Moms. I like the leaders better after they have their coffee. The radio station broadcasted the program from a cell phone. We even got Bryon the Producer and his helper, Amy to wear a cookie costume and dance the Can Can with us. After it was all over we went to breakfast at IHOP. I loved the pancakes and honey of course.

I will miss Troop 1734 but can't wait to see what is in store for me with my next troop. Thanks for letting me stay with you, Troop 1734.

MARCH AND APRIL 2003 (TROOP 920)

I have been busy this month. Two days after I found my new troop, I met all the girls of Junior Troop 920. Actually I also met girls from Brownie Troop 2138 because they meet together in the same place and do opening and closing ceremonies together. The girls from 920 decided I needed socks that they signed. They keep my paws nice and warm!

The meeting was busy and this troop has been busy. We got to see pictures of all the events they have been doing. They went snowshoeing at Mt. Rainier in February and had a pizza party celebration because the 2 troops won an award together at Thinking Day. They also had a sleep over and made thank you cookie jars for the cookie leaders and then went to the State Capital the next day. We wrote thank you notes at the meeting to our Senator and the tour guide. Do you know the three areas of government? I do now! Each girl got cool stuff from the trip too-a pencil, a postcard, a fun book of facts on the Capitol and a copy of the Washington State Seal. See my new pencil? It is from Governor Locke's office!

Troop 920 is planning and LEADING (I didn't know that 4th graders got to do that kind of stuff) the Brownie Rally. You Brownies had better be signed up for this event on May 2nd cause it is going to be COOL. True, lots of the planning is done by the leaders, but the girls are going lots too. At my first meeting with them they made signs and posters for the Technology Hunt and at the 2nd meeting we worked on the actual work station presentations. Many girls are doing homework assignments on science questions so they will be able to present and lead the work station activities. Brownies who go will earn the "Science in Action" Try-It and have all the stuff to complete the "Science Wonders" Try-It. Three girls are actually doing the planning and running the event for their service hours for their Bronze Award. I want to do that someday too!

920 went to the Glass museum in April. The Hot Shop is hot, but fun to watch the artists really blow glass. One of the moms won a piece of glass (very pretty) because she had a calculator in her purse. I am not sure I could do that blowing and shaping since the glass is so hot it would singe my fur. The Chiluly glass exhibit outside is so neat. You have to look up in the ceiling of the overpass to see most of it!

Well that is about it. They have lots of near stuff planned for the spring. I wonder what troop will get me for encampment? Just hearing about it sounds fun.

APRIL AND MAY 2003 (TROOP 1118)

I spent the month of April with Junior Troop 1118. We started out slow because everyone seemed to come home with a cold from spring vacation, but then we got busy! The first week was spent watching Anna B. work on the quilt for her Bronze Award. IT was a lot of work, but it looks really neat. I'm sure it will be appreciated by the person who gets it.

At the second meeting, I finally got to meet most of the girls from the troop. Anna B. again took a leadership role and helped Amy, Jenny, and me assemble first aid kits and earn the "First Aid" badge. Practicing the bandaging was really fun and I even got a bandage for my left paw!

The next day we went to Junior Badge Day and earned the "United We Stand" badge. It was really fun to see and hear about the 27 different flags that our country has had. The VFW performed the flag ceremony and taught us many things about the flag history. Then we broke into groups to learn songs, learn our US Symbols, and participate in a service project to write letters and send flags that we folded to our servicemen and women. It was a long day, but fun! And now i have 2 badges-already sewed on my vest!.

At our last meeting together, we painted and stenciled boxes to be given to our mothers for Mother's Day. They were really pretty. Then we went outside and made rockets to launch. The stomp rocket worked really great until the rocket went on the roof and we had to get the ladder to get it down. Also this week, we added a new girl to our troop Kandra. It's really fun to go to the different troops and meet lots of new girls. Oh, I almost forgot-Troop 1118 helped me made the tracer kind for the cover of my diary. Thanks!
