The Sky Dome was opened in 1989 and is home to both the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team and NBA Toronto Raptors basketball team. It's built close to the CN Tower at 1 Blue Jays Way, in Downtown Toronto. It has a capacity of 60,000, covering an 8-acre plot of land. It's retractable roof takes 20 minutes to fully open, providing nearly total shelter to all seated areas. The roof itself is 11,000 tonnes in weight, spanning 674 feet. Not satisfied with being the world's first all-season multi-purpose stadium fitted with retractable roof, it also contains a "Jumbo Tron" visual screen which itself is one of the largest video screens in the world. It is an awesome sight, and provides an incredible atmosphere.
The Dome provides a Skydome Hotel located inside offering rooms with views across the stadium, as well as a choice of four restaurants from which tourists can eat and watch sporting and musical attractions in comfort.
It is a amazing place to visit where I watched the opening ceremony of The Toronto Blue Jays first game of the season. Even though baseball must be the most boring game i've ever witnessed (compared to the regular Premiership action in good old Blighty), it was still a brilliant atmosphere and outing. Given the huge size of the stadium, the noise generated was excellent.
