Three 2004 Builds!
1814 Bush Street, Red Wing
Lafferty-Rush family
Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity celebrated the groundbreaking of its fifteenth house on Tuesday, April 13, 2004. The Lafferty-Rush family home will be built at 1814 Bush Street in Red Wing. Members of the board of directors, friends, and members of the Lafferty-Rush family gathered on the job site to break the ground for the construction. Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Parker Quammen introduced the project, noting the patience of the family in their wait for a home, and said, “We ask for God’s blessing for the build and see it as a way of acting out our faith and serving as instruments of God’s love in the world. As we build homes, we enrich the lives of the families we serve directly as well as those of the hundreds of volunteers who make our projects a reality.” Then future homeowner Ronald Rush added a few words, describing his happiness at beginning the long-awaited house. He also told those at the groundbreaking that he appreciated the help and patience of all of the volunteers. After Rush spoke, the family and volunteers used shovels to overturn the first bits of earth, and Reverend Tom Lee offered a benediction. Habitat for Humanity works for and with low-income families to build simple, decent, and affordable homes in Goodhue County. Construction on the home at 1814 Bush Street continues throughout the summer.
