History Daphne Crane (nee Moon) was born in Manchester, England, the only daughter of Harry and Gertrude Moon. As a child she went to school with a boy named Niles, whom she called "Niley". She dreamt of being a ballerina. She also had very little privacy at home, sharing a house with her parents and her 8 brothers. Daphne played pool as a child and her father had to convert the pantry into a trophy room for all her trophies. She also liked playing darts. Daphne starred in a British TV series as a schoolgirl, called Mind Your Knickers. She played a character named Emma. Daphne discovered she had psychic powers as a girl, but her powers come and go and often aren't that accurate. She discovered this from her grandmother, Grammie Moon, and apparently only the Moon women have these powers. Daphne attended beauty school in 1982. Daphne had quite a few relationships, including losing her virginity to a boy with a lazy eye. She met Clive Roddy in 1987 and they got engaged, but Daphne saw no future in the relationship and broke it off. She said if they were still free in 5 years, they could try again. Daphne lived in London for a while, living near a rock band who played the same song again and again. She moved to the USA in 1993, staying with her Uncle Jackie in San Francisco before moving to Seattle. She got the job as live-in psychical therapist to Martin Crane and moved in with the Cranes. Unknown to her, she was the affection of Niles' heart for 6 1/2 years. Daphne again had various relationships for the next few years, including one with Joe DeCarlo from 1996-1997. Daphne got engaged again in 1999 to Niles' divorce lawyer, Donny Douglas. She thought she would be happy with Donny, but then she discovered Niles' feelings for her and left Donny at the altar for Niles in 2000. They got engaged in 2002 and married later that year, and despite Daphne's mother moving in with them the couple have a very happy marriage. Daphne gave birth to her first child, David, in 2004. Personality Daphne was very "kooky" when she met the Cranes, but soon settled in, making friends with them and Roz. She took the role of housekeeper as well, doing many of the chores and generally running the apartment. She also has to make sure Martin does his exercises and often walks Eddie, although she didn't find it funny when Frasier often treated her like a maid! Daphne has a large and sometimes odd family back in the UK, including her 8 brothers (Simon, Nigel, Reginald, Steven, Billy, Peter, David and Michael) and the infamous Grammie Moon. Her mother, Gertrude, lives in Seattle now as well following her marriage break-up. Daphne was close to some of her family, including her dad, and often spoke to them on the phone. She often refers to her family when she gives the Cranes some of her slightly eccentric advice. Daphne was bought up as a working class girl and took this attitude with her when she moved to the States. She is very down to earth and friendly, and this is partly what attracted Niles to her. At the same time though, she is aware of the class divisions between her and the Cranes. She called them "Dr Crane" or "Mr Crane" for 7 years, only calling Niles by his first name once they started dating and Frasier and Martin after her marriage. Daphne is also good at pool and darts, though she gives the impression that she is a bit dizzy and can't understand the rules. Her brother Billy is also a ballroom dancer and Daphne used to help him practice. She sometimes has a couple of pints with her friends, both British and American. She also likes to watch soap operas & daytime talk shows. She also likes cooking, although the general consensus is that her cooking isn't very good. Daphne Moon is played by Jane Leeves. She first appeared in Ep 1 "The Good Son". Got any more information on Daphne Moon? E-mail me gjthomas84@hotmail.com, putting "GNS Daphne Moon" in the subject bar. Related Articles: |
