Skyline: A crane lifts a load over the skyline.

Plot: Frasier decides to hire a new housekeeper after deciding he can't expect Daphne to do the cleaning as she is now Niles' girlfriend. After hearing of the death of Colonel Turner, and that his butler, Ferguson, is now unemployed, he decides to get a butler.

Ferguson starts work a few days later and Frasier is very pleased. In the newspaper he reads that Alan Murchy has been elected president of the opera board, and Ferguson says that that means there is now an available place. Frasier decides to run for it and with some help from Ferguson, decides to throw a party to impress the board.

In the kitchen Daphne talks to Ferguson about her relationship with Niles, and Ferguson says that employee-employer relationships don't work out in the long run. Daphne chooses to ignore this but continues to think about it - are she and Niles suited for each other? Niles meanwhile has decided to sneak Daphne to his apartment so they can have a date. However Mel calls to spoil their evening - Niles has to appear somewhere with her and the date is postponed until the night of Frasier's party.

At the party everything is going well - until some guests reveal they bought a friend with them - Mel!!! The date is once more postponed and Daphne is of course very upset. Niles once again plays the doting husband, until Mel makes arrangements for them to spend New Year's Eve with her friends. This is the last straw for Niles, and he declares his love for Daphne in front of everyone, wrecking Frasier's chances of getting on the board.

Inspired by Niles and Daphne, Ferguson hands in his resignation - there is a certain Lady Westerfield he wants to get to know better.....

Subtitles: What The Butler Saw.
