  • Now of course this is an obvious thing people constantly wonder how to get more of. In all honesty this is more luck than it is webmasters efforts. You can try extremely hard and still not succeed.

The important thing is don't get discouraged if you get two hits or two hundred hits. The fact of the matter is that a visitor is a visitor and you are just gonna have to go with whatever happens. At times you may recieve few hits or tons.

Search Engines are an important part of being found on the net. Search engines are the primary way that people look for sites. The most used search engines are Yahoo, Altavista, and Infoseek. These are extremely hard to get indexed into, especially Yahoo, and when you do get in, there is no garauntee where you'll be placed if anywhere and how long. Search engines look for META Tags and these are very key to the page being picked up but the concept of META tags will come later. If you know how to use them, by all means do. If not don't worry. One tip is putting alt tags in every image with something. Although this may seem pointless it does help with the search engines.

Another form of getting hits is advertisement. Now granted most of us refuse to pay money to be advertised on one of those banner ads, but it helps. We won't get into pay ads though in this page since this page doesn't not pay for advertising. Join banner exchanges. As many as you see fit though in all honesty I don't think Link Exchange is very effective due to its wode range of banner ads. Its most likely that your site's banenr won't go on pages that it is supposed to. Look for banner exchanges that pertain to your subject and place them on pages. If you belong to multipe, vary them and create a page that lists all the banner excahnges. This helps other people out lookig for some as well as earn your page extra exposures.

Webrings, although I don't find them personally very effective, can bring people to your sites. I personally think you should have these listed on a seperate page but you don't have to. My opinions are not law, though they should be :-) It doesn't really matter how many webrings you join as long as it doesn't confuse you or your visitor and waste time.

Guestbooks are major ways of getting free advertising. Go to as many pages with similar topics to yours and comment in them. Most offer a space for the url and you can always put your banner in the comment line though this 'll annoy a few webmasters.

One final thing is if you can find a very popular directory site of links such as The Anime Turnpike. Tons of visitors go to these types of pages and it is KEY that you get your name on these pages. If you sumbit an application and they never put you up send it again and again till you annoy them into doing it.
