Daysend is a melodic thrash and death metal band from Sydney, originally a virtually reformed Deadspawn line-up, with Kordek from Automation adding a second guitar, along with former Psi.Kore bass player Webster. Matt Lamb (also ex-Psi.Kore) was the original drummer but he left the band almost immediately. Simon Calabrese (ex-Redsands) joined the band as replacement for Dave Micallef in January 2003. Since then they have quickly become one of the country's most high profile metal bands. After a small scale tour with Dungeon in February, Daysend supported The Haunted in March then toured with Damaged in July and Strapping Young Lad in November. The much-anticipated debut album Severance was issued late October 2003 and the band ended 2003 with an appearance at Metal for the Brain. Severance was voted Australian Metal Album of the Year by the listeners of the Full Metal Racket national radio program in January 2004. This was followed by a national tour with Frankenbok in March 2004 and then a tour with Entombed in April. Shows with In Flames and Machine Head late in 2004 co-incided with a national tour with Stronger Than Hate and Severance was issued worldwide by Metal Blade in November, 2004.
