Sepid Dež  is situated 20 km north of Gorgân in the wide steppe of Dašte Gorgân (Gorgân steppe). The former name of Sepid Dež was Pahluye Dež until 1979. Sepid Dež in Persian means "White Fort", which was estabilished by Šâh Tahmâsb I (c.1000 years ago) for protection of Astrâbâd (Gorgân).
From the point of tribal life and acceptance of tribe, Sepid Dež has been  known in this province. Turkman emigrants and people from Sistân province  are the main minorities in Sepid Dež.
