There are many lovely pockets of forest in Gorgân region. Gorgân area and Golestân province offer many excellent one and several days excursions across mountains and through forests or through vast steppe of Dašte Gorgân & Gonbad .

Golestân National Park
Golestân national park is located  in  the Northeast of  Iran along  the Caspian Sea, and is characterized by temperate to humid  deciduous and hardwood  forests.Just some hours drive from Gorgân,  on the banks of the Alborz (Elburz) mountains, you find Irans oldest and one of its finest parks. The park is uniquely situated.

Area of the park is 91895. From both ecological and  economic perspectives, Golestân national  park is one of the most important national parks in Iran. Due to the diversity of ecosystems, it enjoys a wider rang of biological diversity than the other parks of Iran. There is also the potential for increased tourism.

Location: This mountainous park is situated between the towns of  Gonbade Kâvus and  Bodjnord, 45 km east of Minu Dašt (150  km  east of Gorgân) within the  boundaries of  the three provinces of Xorâsân, Golestân  and Semnân. It's location is 37º , 16´ , 34´´  to 37º,  31´  N. and 55º, 43´  to 66º , 17´,  45´´ E. See map  .

Golestân Waterfall            
A 20 meters high waterfall in the Golestân National park,  in the middle of a green and beautiful forest and popular destination among local people. There are some  tourist facilities like drinking water, toilets, parking etc here. See map .
Getting there: The easiest way is to charter a car from Minu Dašt or Gorgân.

Nâhâr Xorân forest   
Situated only 6 km southern Gorgân, this is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the northen Iran, with plenty of hiking trails through dense forest which are easy to find. See map.
There are facilities like restaurant, cafe, hotel and camping   here.
Getting there: It is easy reaching Nâhâr Xorân.You can catch bus or charter/share a taxi      
from Gorgân (6 km).
Naharxoran Forest


Rango forest, c. 7 km south west of Gorgân
This lovely pocket of forest with a waterfall and a natural well is situated 7 km south western Gorgân. See map.  The tourist facilities here are poor. 
Getting there:  The easiest way is to charter a car from Gorgân.
     
Sirabad cave
Šast Kolâ & Bârân kuh forest sanctuary
If you are looking forward to a respite from the maddening city life then let yourself  loose in the lap of the nature and feel and enjoy  the beauty of the cascading Bârân kuh  waterfalls in the bushy  forest of Bârân kuh ,  c.7 km south of Š ast Kol â forest sanctuary. There are  several  natural caves in Bârân Kuh forest. Š ast Kolâ  forest sanctuary is situated c.10 km SW Gorgân. It is an excellent one/half  day walk. See map .
Getting there: The easiest way is to charter a car from Gorgân to Š ast Kolâ forest and than hike through dense forest to Bârân Kuh forest which is easy to find.
                                                            
Sade Nowmal (Kowsar), Nowmal dam
With a heigth of 20 meter and 575 meter length  this dam  is  located c. 6  km east of Gorgân. Alang Dareforest with several natural wells   
Alang Dare forest with several natural  wells and small  rivers is just 4 km southern Gorgân. It is easy to reach  Alang Dare forest by private car.There are some tourist facilities like camping, electricity and toailets/shower here. See map .

Mountainous villages route
The beautiful mountainous and hospital villages of Siâh rudbâr , Cely , Bâl â cely, X âke pirzan, Zarin Gol and Afrâ Taxte along  this trek are worth seeing, culturally and architecturally, c. 20 km south east of Ali Âbâd . Clustered houses with tiled roofs match the environment. The route is rich  with flora and fauna. See map.       
Getting there: The easiest way is to charter a car from  Ali Âbâd. You can even get arranged trip by contacting some travel agency in Ali Âbâd or Gorgân.
Ziyâ rat waterfall and warm water well  
  This village is located in bushy forest, c.11 km south of Gorgân.This village is easy to find. The road between Gorgân and Ziyârat  village is very green and beautiful. It is an excellent one day excursion. See map .
Getting there: The easiest way to get here is to charter a car from Gorgân for only a few US dollars.

Sorx Poste
Sorx Pošte (Qoroq ) forest park
A 650 h forest park, 22 km eastern Gorgân, off road 22  (main road between Gorgân-Mashad) with its lush vegetation  and   luxuriant forests and swamps, is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Gorgân area. Sorx Pošte forest park is well equiped with  different facilities like restaurant,  cafe, camping with toailets and shower, electricity and temporary settlement. There is even a little zoo with local  wild animals here. It is situated 22  km east of Gorgân. See map .

Širâbâd waterfalls, natural pools & cave                                       
Širâbâd water falls from a height of 20m giving the appearance of water jumping and playing on the rocks before falling down  to the natural pools with a depth of 40-80 meters.       
This emazing cave with a gap of  9 meters, height of three meters and a length of approximately 150 meters is situated c. 6 km south   of  Xân Bebein . This cave is known even as Dive Sepid  (white devil)  by the locals . See map.

The easiest way to reach these attractions is to charter a car from Xân Bebein, Gonbade Kâvus or Gorgân. You can even get arranged trips to these attractions, by contacting some travel agency in Xân Bebein, Gonbade Kâvus or Gorgân.

Zarin Gol foerst sanctuary
  The forest sanctuary of Zarin Gol are located c.15  km southeast  of Ali Âbâd (50 km east of Gorgân). It is an excellent one or several days walk (up to you)  and/or hike across mountains and through bushy forests. In this exciting trekking  region of Zarin Gol , one not only walks along a large portion of the Zarin Gol - ke pirzan - Si âh rudbâ r trek route, but also gets an exposure to the socio – cultural  life of the people living  in this beautiful area .
