While we take high school education for granted these days,
it wasn't always so. The following was written by one of
Annie Farrell Shannon's children in the 1970s:
The Farrell children grew up with the Shannons, their close neighbors,
and attended the same school. Most of them received a modicum of
higher education, Uncle George attended St. Ambrose, and the girls had
brief terms at Our Lady of Angels. I remember Mama telling of coming
home for Christmas after her first semester, and learning to her
sorrow that another sister, I think Aunt Tessie, was to attend the
second semester in her place.
Annie's June 3 obituary says she died that morning at 4 o'clock.
The Farrell Family History gives 5/3/35 as her death date,
meaning May 3rd. Her funeral was to be held Wednesday after the
obituary was published, which fits better with June than May, 1935
(June 3 was a Monday, May 3 was a Friday).
A circa 1974 ``History of Shannon Family'' by one of Annie's
children says she died June 2, 1935 (note that she died very
early in the morning of June 3, which might be called
the night of June 2)
