Weimaraners have been a huge part of our family now for almost 11 years. We are active members of the WCA (Weimaraner Club of America) and the WCGKC (Weimaraner Club of Greater Kansas City).
While Weimaraners are not the breed for everyone, we have found that they are excellent family dogs. They must become part of the family in all ways to have the relationship be a good one.
While young, my family had numerous breeds from a St. Bernard to a Pug. So when the time came for me to introduce a dog to my family I knew what qualities I wanted and what I didn't want in a dog.
So the search began, I wanted a dog that would be active, attentive, friendly with my daughter, but one that could also be a bit reserved around strangers. I wanted a dog that would be happy inside with me...oh and one more thing...short tail and coat.
Now almost 11 years later, I have shared my home, heart and life with 3 Weimaraners or my own and countless ones that were in need of new homes. While I opened my heart and home to many of these displaced Weimaraners over the past years...each time one went home, my heart broke just a little because they were leaving!
I highly recommend a rescue dog as a first Weimaraner for anyone who is looking for a pet. In most cases they are out of the puppy stage, housebroken and have had a little obedience.
