Class discussions are conducted entirely in German. Students are required to produce independent study projects. Areas of reading and grammar knowledge as well as German customs and culture are also stressed.

The program familiarizes students with highlights of past centuries and provides glimpses of contributions made in science, literature and the arts.

Students will also participate in the “Diplom I” where they can earn a  diploma by the German gov’t attesting to a high level of German language proficiency.

Course program: Deutsch Aktuell 3, Mittelstufe Deutsch

Course code: LWA DUI/OAI

(German stream)

This course is the culmination of the students’ German credit courses after which they will be able to easily continue their study of German at the university level.

Advanced grammar is one of the main components of this course. As well, students are also introduced to German literature analysis when they read a novel and several short stories and hold discussions in German.

An independent study unit requires students to conduct independent research  with German material, and to give a presentation of the results.

Students will also participate in the “Diplom II” where they can earn the prestigious language diploma by the German gov’t  which is equivalent to the university proficiency exam in Germany.

Course program: Mittelstufe Deutsch

Prerequisite: LWA CUI or LWG DUI or the approval of the administration

*** The English stream credit courses conform to the credit courses offered at the high schools in Waterloo Region and use the same program, Deutsch Aktuell.

They are based on the assumption that the student has no previous knowledge of the Geman language from home.

Most of our students have, however,  already gained some knowledge attending our English stream elementary courses.
