History
Outwardly the same appearance to the Series II except for a change in the front apron panel, from an angular panel to a gentle curved panel. A mechanical change was that the steering arms were now attached to the bottom of the swivels.

A 1967 revamp of the interior lead to a new dashboard and a single concealed wiper motor mounted in the dash. Landrovers now became negative earthed and the sill panels narrowed from 5" to 3"

Twin light In 1969 the headlights moved to the wings, just ahead of new traffic regulations in the UK. This lead to a variant with the headlights in both the old and the new positions.

A batch of these twin headlight models was supplied to the MOD to be used in a two wheel drive trial. A bright-spark had noted that Artillery Regiment Land Rovers spent more time gun towing on roads than off road, the suggestion was it would be less wearing mechanically to use 2 wheel drive. As drivers with free wheeling hubs know the saving in wear and tear is negligible to the point of unnoticeable without special equipment.

The Forward Control body was available from 1961. A Lightweight model IIa produced for the MOD and was available from 1968, developed as an air-portable vehicle. A special 1 Ton model was introduced in 1969.
