History
The Defender is a re-branding of the
90 & 110 series launched in 1983, the models now became referred to as "D" models D90, D110 and D130.
The only engine that was made available on late model Defenders in the UK has been the 2.5l Td5 turbo-charged diesel and PAS was standard.
The entry-level vehicle is the D90 Pick Up; the top of the range vehicle is the D110 Station Wagon XS list price is £23,648.51.

The Defender is a true off-road vehicle developed and refined with this in mind.
On paper a number of other 4x4’s look more capable for off road use but in practice the defender repeatedly proves to be the better vehicle.
Pictured left is a D90 owned by Cheviot 4x4 off road preparation centre, to the right a standard USA vehicle.
The current trend to own 4x4 vehicles has seen almost every other manufacturer introduce a model of they own, most of these have limited off road capabilities and are intended for everyday road use.
Models supplied to the MOD are referred to as HS models; these vehicles outwardly appear the same as the civilian versions.
Coming off the same Defender production lines a number of stronger components are incorporated including drop shackle suspension and military pattern bumperettes.
Some vehicles have side lockers behind the doors, split doors and FFR vehicles are also available.
The latest MOD vehicle is the Wolf XD.

these include the Quadtech range, mobile hydraulic platforms, drop-side, boxy box and Fire & Rescue vehicles.
The Landrover spawned a growing family of more luxurious 4x4 vehicles that are still evolving, starting with the original
Range Rover the latest member been the
Freelander 2.
The Defender is the utilitarian of the family and a true workhorse vehicle but even this is evolving a new version has been developed due to go on sale in 2007.
