1: What is a Loss Assessor?

A loss assessor is a claims professional working exclusively for the general public or business owners by assisting them in preparing, filing, and negotiating equitable settlement of insurance claims. He / she has expert knowledge in handling claims and takes care of all necessary details, documentation & proofs required to settle a claim.

2 : What is a Loss Adjuster?

A loss adjuster is a claims professional working exclusively for insurance companies vetting claims. They are paid for by the insurance company to investigate policy cover & assess the amount payable. They must strike a balance between your interests and those of the insurance company whom their loyalties lie with.

3: Are Loss Assessors connected with insurance companies?

No. They are engaged exclusively by the policyholder bringing claims and do not work for insurance companies.

4: Can my Insurance Broker not handle my claim for me?

A broker is well trained in determining your insurance needs and finding the most suitable policy cover for you.
Although they will assist you in smaller claims, they are not trained in larger losses or the specialized services a loss assessor provides.

5: How will Phoenix Claims Consultants deal with your claim?

We will respond immediately upon being notified of a loss, survey the damage, price up the cost of repairs, meet with and show insurers the damage, and negotiate suitable settlement terms with your insurance company reflecting the cost of remedial works necessary, or in the case of a theft the cost of replacing the stolen articles.

6: In the event of a loss what steps should I take?

The loss should be reported to your insurance broker or directly to your insurance company as soon as possible and you should immediately engage the services of a loss assessor to assist you.
If contacted first we will report the matter to insurers on your behalf.

7: Can I prepare the claim on my own?

Yes but the typical insurance policy contains many provisions, complex details, and technical language about requirements and complicated procedures you must adhere to in the event of a loss.
It stands to reason that assessors with years of experience professionally handling & preparing claims can do it more competently & efficiently.

8: How much does it cost to engage Phoenix Claims Consultants?

Our fee for handling your claim is a percentage of the amount your claim settles for. It starts at 8% plus Vat @ 21% and is on a downward sliding scale as the settlement value of the claim goes up with no hidden charges.
It becomes payable when you receive a settlement cheque from your insurance company.

9: What if I am unsure whether my policy covers the loss or damage?

We will give you straight up advice on policy cover and if we consider a claim will not be accepted by insurers. Our first consultation & survey is free so it will cost you nothing in such a scenario.
The handling fee only becomes payable when you receive a payment from insurers.

10: What type of loss or damage do insurance policies cover?

That depends on the wording contained in your insurance policy. In the main home insurance policies cover loss or damage caused by :

  • Fire.

  • Theft or attempted stealing.

  • Storm or flood.

  • Lightening.

  • Smoke damage.

  • Escape of water or oil from :

    • A fixed water apparatus.

    • A Heating installation

    • A Domestic appliance.

  • Impact involving a vehicle, aircraft or animal.

  • Falling trees.

  • Falling Aerials or masts.

  • Subsidence.

  • Damage to underground services by freezing:

    • Pipes.

    • Of Boilers

  • Malicious damage or vandalism.

  • Accidental damage if specifically included in the policy.
