Determination

IT COULDN'T BE DONE

Somebody said that it couldn't be done.
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't." but he could be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried, he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that"
"At least no one ever has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew, he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it!

THE QUITTER

It's the plugging away that will win you the day.
so don't be a piker, old pard!
Just draw on your grit, it's so easy to quit:
It's the keeping-your-chin-up that's hard.
It's easy to cry that you're beaten-and die;
It's easy to crawfish and crawl'
But to fight and to fight when hope's out of sight-
why that's the best game of all!
And though you come out of each grueling bout,
All broken and beaten and scarred,
Just have one more try-it's dead easy to die,
It's the keeping-on-living that's hard.

Believe In Miracles

"When things have gone wrong,
as they sometimes will do,
Or an obstacle suddenly pops into view,
You've got to believe This is merely a stop
And eventually you're bound
to come out on top...
So whatever you do,
Just Don't Quit!"

BEATEN BEFORE YOU START

If you think you're beaten, you are . . .
If you think you dare not, you don't . . .
If you like to win but you think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost.
For out on the world you find
Success begins with a person's faith,
it's all in the state of mind.
Full many a race is lost
Before even a step is run;
And many a coward fails
Before ever his work's begun.
Think big and your deeds will grow,
Think small and you'll fall behind;
Believe you can and you will,
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you're outclassed, you are . . .
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to believe in yourself
Before you can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the strongest or the fastest man,
But soon or late, the one who wins,
Is the one who thinks he can.
