Notes
The first known history, at this time, of our lineage of the Hazelton
family is Henry Hazleton, Sr. The Hazeltons are of French descent.
Henry and Clarranda were living in Canada at the time their sons were
born. According to the history passed down through the generations,
Henry, Sr., died ca 1833 and is buried on Labrador. It is said he
walked and rolled a damaged iron wheel to where he could have it
repaired after having stepped on a thorn. Blood poisoning set in
causing his death. Sometime after Henry's death, Clarranda remarried
(no records) and there was conflict between the stepfather and the
two boys. Henry S. and Sebra Beman, at about the ages of 15 and 16,
ran away from home (ca 1848). They crossed the St. Lawrence River
into the State of New York. Records found indicated Henry S. went
back to Canada and returned to New York State a few years later. In
doing research on the family, I have found the name spelled Hazleton,
Hazelton, Hasleton and Haselton. They are one and the same family.
