Progress Report


May thru June 1998

Here is what we have done in May & June:

Math: Kevin--18th 92.5% he is learing about much harder expressions, rational expressions, and polynomials.
Erin --14th 89%; 15th 95%--Erin is learing about signed numbers, geometric shapes, finding area and ratios involving totals.

Vocabulary, Language Arts: We have taken final Vocabulary test--both scoring 100% We will continue with this vocabulary program next year. The Greek words we learned in May & June--

tres-- three

Reading: Kevin and Erin The books chosen for May are-
     Kevin-Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes
     Erin- Bunnicula by James Howe

Social Studies: We are finishing our study of Africa.

Our new section of study is coastal west Africa

  • Ivory Coast (DONE)
  • Guinea (DONE)
  • Sierra Leone (DONE)
  • Liberia (DONE)
  • Guinea Bissau (DONE)
  • Senegal (DONE)
  • The Gambia (DONE)
We will finish North-West Africa, North Africa and Egypt next year.

Science: We have finished our unit on bats
We are now embarking on our study on caves, learning about the different types of caves and how caves are formed. We will also study the lifeforms that live in caves, or that depend on caves for their shelter.

Bible Studies: We are reading The Parables of Jesus These are the Parables we have discussed this month-

  • LOST COIN-- Luke 15: 8-10
  • LOST (PRODIGAL) SON-- Luke 15: 11-32
  • SHREWD MANAGER-- Luke 16: 1-9
  • RICH MAN AND LAZARUS-- Luke 16: 19-31
  • FARMER AND SERVANT-- Luke 17: 7-10
  • UNJUST JUDGE-- Luke 18: 1-8
  • PHARISEE AND TAX COLLECTOR-- Luke 18: 9-14
  • POUNDS-- Luke 19: 11-27

Computer: Kevin will be continuing his work on his New Redwall page and Erin Will work on her new homepage. Both Kevin and Erin would like to add cyber-mice (along with ALL their furniture and accessories) to their homepages.

Art & Music: In art our pencil sketches are finished, and we are now beginning to paint our final water color on canvas. Kevin has chosen Gypsy and Quincy as his painting, while Erin is creating a seascape
In music--In May we went to New York (!!) to see Phantom of the Opera, and we also saw a small church performance of Godspell. We LOVED both plays ! As an essay, we compared and contrasted these two performances.
