These pretty, bright edible flowers look great as a garnish on just about any dish, but beware, they pack a little peppery punch! They grow in vibrant shades of yellow, red and orange. There are two types, one which climbs on a vine up to 10 feet in length, and one that remains a nice small shrub.
Always wash these flowers very well as they tend to attract aphids but they are well worth the visual pleasure when they decorate a cold plate, a salad, or a cream-sauce based pasta dish. The taste reminds me of radishes with a sweet spot in the center. The very word 'nasturtium' is the Latin name of 'watercress'.
Float some of these lovelies in a punch bowl for added flair and colour!
