White House unveils new living room

Tamara Abbey and Rick White proved perseverance really does pay off when they officially completed renovating the living room.

The new look features a 10-foot textured ceiling and hardwood floors. The plaster walls have been properly sealed and painted then Abbey added a faux-finish over the top to create a warmer space.

"I just hated that dropped ceiling," Abbey said. "It made the room too small. Now, it just looks and feels so much more comfortable."

Abbey designed the new space while White performed most of the demolition and construction.

"The project took longer than we anticipated," White said. "Of course we encountered some unexpected help from Alex which delayed the project quite a bit."

Abbey and White started the project in November. Alex, the youngest member of the family, immediately volunteered.

"I don't know if we would have finished it if it wasn't for Grandma and Grandpa," Abbey said. "They took him overnight a few times so we were finally able to get some work done."

White also thanked his parents for their assistance during the project. "Although," he added, "It was probably more fun than scraping wallpaper off the ceiling."
