All information contained on this page is guaranteed to be wildly innaccurate. Most of it was made up on the spur of the moment and reflects a personal reality that may or may not correspond to what you think is real. If you can't cope with that then you need something that even the PSG may be unable to offer (although we'd be willing to have a go for a laugh).

Sharon

Sharon J. Silver

Sharon J. Silver (a.k.a. Mrs Wife, Mummy, Mummily, Hey You, etc) is a fully qualified Yogurt Pot Opener, having been awarded chartership of the Institute Of Yogurt Pot Openers in 1994. Her other awards include Supreme Carrot Wrapper (given in recognition of her supreme skill in the field of wrapping carrots) and Most Fruity Person (a highly coveted award only given out to those who display a high standard of expertise in fruit basket arranging). All of these awards, along with a degree certificate, are on display at the world headquarters of the PSG in the gallery known to all as simply The Ducket - a special room dedicated to the highest ideals of the PSG (actually, it's our downstairs toilet, but we hung our degree certificates in there and the rest just followed).

When she is not running after the children, Sharon likes nothing more than to relax in front of the fish tank. Actually, this is a lie. She really likes to go and have a lie down with a nice cup of unleaded tea and a good book, but she rarely gets the chance to do that either.

Alan

Alan Silver

A full-time loony, Alan was responsible for the original idea of the PSG. He was, until recently, paid a wage by British Nuclear Fuels Plc who foolishly believed that he spendt his time working whilst on their premises. He is a professional mathematician, having gained various pieces of paper that claim to be degree certificates. These are on display in the PSG gallery known as The Ducket.

Having accepted a generous voluntary redundancy package from BNFL, Alan now spends his mornings learning in Sha'arei Torah Yeshiva and his afternoons tinkering about with a computer in the spare bedroom. This last activity is always referred to as "working" whenever Sharon is around as it makes her happy thinking that he is doing something useful.

Since retiring (ha ha), Alan has bought a bicycle, which he occasionally uses. Its main purpose is to transport him to yeshiva. Its secondary purpose is to amuse Aryeh Yehuda who gets a lift to school on the back.

Alan spends his spare time running after the children, propping up Sharon when she is tired from running after the children and staring wildly at large Hebrew books pretending that he understands them. As the official PSG aquarist, Alan gets to stick his hand in the fish tank every now and then. When not engaged in any of these activities, Alan spends his time dreaming up newer and sillier ways of making people laugh.

Nechoma Bryna

Nechoma Bryna Silver

Nechoma Bryna (the "ch" is a soft sound as in the Scottish "loch") was born on 11th May 1993. The name Nechoma is a Hebrew word meaning "comfort" or "compassion" and the name Bryna is either Yiddish for "brown" or Slavic for "conqueror" (we're not exactly sure which). She is named after Alan's late paternal grandmother who was called Bryna (or more commonly known as "Bess").

Nechoma Bryna's interests involve reading books, eating raisins, reading books, riding her bike, reading books, painting, reading books, jumping on daddy and reading books. She holds Olympic awards for jumping up and down on the spot (usually on Daddy, but sometimes just on the floor) and singing in bed.

Nechoma Bryna attends the Manchester Jewish Day School. She is currently learning to read both Hebrew and English (and doing very well if I may say so). She can write her own name very well, although it sometimes comes out backwards when she forgets which language she is supposed to be using !!

We have available a gorgeous picture of her as a bridesmaid (25K) and a picture of her dressed up for Purim (12K). We also have a picture of Nechoma Bryna from November 1997 (26K).

There are more photos of Nechoma Bryna in the PSG photo gallery.

Aryeh Yehuda

Aryeh Yehuda Silver

Aryeh Yehuda was born on 27th December 1994. Both of his names are Hebrew. The name Aryeh means "lion" and the name Yehuda comes from the word "hoda" which is the verb to give thanks. He is named after Sharon's late grandfather Aryeh (commonly known as "Pappa") and usually refers to himself as "Ai Hudda". He calls his big sister "Hum Bwyna" and the baby "Ey-yohu".

Aryeh Yehuda had his first haircut recently. Hopefully we will have pictures of the event up on the site soon.

Aryeh Yehuda's favourite games are playing lions with Nechoma Bryna and any game which involves him being the baby. He does this by curling up in some small space (a cardboard box, a pan cupboard, etc) and tucking himself up with any available cloth, blanket, towel, etc. He often falls asleep like this. In truth, he has become pretty good at falling asleep anywhere.

Other interests involve trying to spot the Flying Foxes which live in our fish tank, eating and trying to copy anything that Nechoma Bryna manages. He has perfected the art of singing loudly, almost in time with other people.

Since Pesach time (or just after if the truth be told), Aryeh Yehuda attends Tashbar Cheder, which is conveniently located two hundred yards down the road from his Daddy's yeshiva. The result of this is that he is often to be seen on a child seat on the back of Daddy's bike, waving at the traffic whilst Daddy grunts and sweats his way up the hills with a large child weighing him down.

We have a cute picture of Aryeh Yehuda dressed smartly and looking thoughtful (17K) and dressed up for Purim (11K).

There are more photos of Aryeh Yehuda in the PSG photo gallery.

Eliyohu's face

Eliyohu Silver

At 1:30am on Monday 7th April 1997, a new PSG member was born. A baby boy, weighing 7lbs 8ozs and measuring 52cms long. He was very pink at birth and had long fingernails. Against the 100-1 odds, he was actually born on his due date, which also happens to be Alan's birthday (English date, not Hebrew date). Mother and baby are both doing very well (B"H).

He was named after one of the greatest Talmudical sages of recent times, Rabbi Eliyohu Kramer of Vilna, who was also known as the Vilna Gaon (literally the "Genius of Vilna"). The Vilna Gaon was famous for his mastery of the most complex depths of Talmudical study. By the age of six he was already greater in learning than any of the other sages of the day !! His teachings continue to be studied to this day by Jews all over the world.

Both of his elder siblings have reacted very well to the new arrival and spend large amounts of time kissing and hugging him. The only friction so far has been an argument as to which of them got to hold him first !!

Eliyohu is now (mostly) sleeping through the night, which has come as a great relief to us all !! He sits up and is learning to crawl. He has one tooth, with another on the way (we think). He laughs, smiles, laughs, smiles, giggles, chuckles and, well just is just generally happy. A worthy addition to the PSG.

Crawling Update - as of Shabbos, parshas Vayeshev (26th/27th December 1997) Eliyohu is now crawling properly. He made it most of the way across the living room floor on the Friday night, all the way across on Shabbos afternoon and has not stopped since. He discovered doors on the Sunday, so he now no longer cries when Mummy leaves the room, he just follows her.

Latest news - Eliyohu can now (middle of January 1998) pull himself up to standing, using a chair or similar. He is working on walking around the furniture and would probably be a lot better at it were it not for the fact that Nechoma Bryna spots him, shouts "Eliyohu's trying to walk !!", picks him up and carries him across the room !! His favourite games include crawling into the kitchen and pulling vegetables out of the cupboard (see the photo gallery for proof of this).

Even Latest-er News (June 1998) - Eliyohu is now fully mobile, running around with the rest of them. He has proved himself to be a worthy member of the PSG, smiling and laughing all day. His favourite games include jumping on Daddy (where have I heard that one before ?), pulling the vegetables out of the cupboard, emptying all of the boxes of toys that other people have just tidied up and eating crackers. He can say about fourteen words, the first of which was "cracker".

We have a picture (9K) of Eliyohu lying down and looking gorgeous (no hint of bias at all) and another really cute picture (7K) of Eliyohu waving at the camera (well, sort of). We also have two pictures from November 1997 (total 127K) which are worth seeing (no honest, they really are).

There are more photos of Eliyohu in the PSG photo gallery.

Note - The spelling of Eliyohu's name that we have used is the standard English spelling, which unfortunately leads to an incorrect pronunciation. It should be pronounced as though it were spelt Ay-lee-yo-hoo, where the four syllables rhyme with 'play', 'see', the 'o' in 'cot' and 'you' respectively.

A fish

The PSG Fish Tank

One of the more relaxing features of the PSG (well, let's face it, the only relaxing feature when the children are awake) is the fish tank. A peaceful oasis of serenity amid the wacky wild and wonderful world of the Silver household.

The fish tank is currently home to five Glowlight tetras, two Red Wag Platies, two Serpae Tetras, one False Siamensis, five Harlequin Rasboras, several kilos of gravel, loads of plants, one piece of slate, about ninety litres of water and loads of snails. We are not too sure how these last inhabitants sneaked a ride into the tank, although we suspect that they were attached to some of the plants. We originally had just one snail who we named. He disappeared and was replaced by Herbert II (in memory of the original Herbert who was the very first occupant of the tank).

For more details and some pictures of the PSG fish tank, please see the PSG Fish Tank Page.
