In our move to Vermont in '74 we brought with us, besides 3 children and my mother, a dog and 2 cats. The dog we have already spoken of. The cats are another story.

Cats, kitties or pussycats whatever you call them they remain an enigma. Rarely are they trained to do tricks and understanding them is something else again. Someone said, dogs come when called; cats take a message and get back to you. They usually do what they want to do when they want to do it. For centuries cats have believed they are far superior to mere dogs and they go through life barely recognizing that dogs exist.

With the humans that share their house they can be quite affectionate. However they let you know right from the start who is boss and believe me it's them. Aloofness is their stock and trade. If you have ever been snubbed by a cat you have been snubbed by an expert.

The two cats we brought with us from New Jersey were barely two years apart in age but quite different in nature. The first one we acquired was Morris ..........
