The Cos
On January 1st, 1998 a band of ferret lovers led by the Ferret Aid Society of Toronto, drove up to London
to retrieve 24 starving ferrets from a box in the snow. Later this same day after each of the rescued ferrets
had enjoyed water, eaten their first healthy meal in ages and were starting to doze off in their warm
blankets, I got the feeling I was being watched. A single pair of eyes were begging to be picked up, when I
picked up this boy he immediately cuddled into my arms all the time staring into my eyes. Not believing
what was happening, I passed the boy to another pair of arms for a cuddle. It did not appear to matter, his
head kept turning in my direction and the stare continued. It was not long until everyone in the room had
come to the same conclusion.... This little boy had already adopted me, and nothing in the world would
change this fact.
Bringing this boy into my home made me believe that some things were just meant to happen. Hershey,
who had never completely learned to play or interact with other ferrets in the entire time she lived with me,
took one look at this nervous boy and must of decided she was going to take care of him. Suddenly,
Hershey knew how to play and the two of them could be found curled up together. Nor did it take long for
Thunder to realize that she had a new partner in crime. Since Lightning had passed away, Thunder had no
one to help her in her devious schemes. When "The Cos" is not curled up with Hershey, he can be found
learning the tricks of the trade from Thunder. With the addition of this one boy, my two girls have become
whole and once again I have 3 ferrets stomping around having fun. Sometimes the only answer as to why
things happen is "Just Because", well my little boy got his name for this reason..... Just Be’Cos !
In the short time that Cosmo has lived with me, I am already beginning to see glimpses of his developing
personality. Thanks to Thunder’s influence, he is turning into an atrocious thief (with everything from a
business card to your clothes being at risk). He has also started to perfect the speedbump from Hershey as
a bid for extra attention. This boy is too damn cute for his own good and he knows it....One look in his big
black eyes and you are trapped into doing anything he wants!
