Hershey

Hershey can best be described with two words: Amazonian Speedbump!

By far the largest female ferret I have ever met, Hershey even outweighs a significant percentage of the male ferret population. This Amazon queen started the winter season with a brand new fur coat and a whopping 3 1/2lbs of ferret to fill out the coat. She has since trimmed down to a mere 3lbs, but you would not notice it from the way she thumps around the house to get your attention.

Aside from her size, Hershey has I other notable quality.... The speedbump. When I first got Hershey she was extremely out of shape and would tire easily. Within a couple minutes of wandering around, Hershey would pancake out on the floor trying to get her breath back. Seeing this sad lump of ferret on the floor would enviably lead me to pick her up and tell her I loved her, when she got her breath back Hershey would squirm to get down and start another wander. I believe it is from these events that Hershey has adopted the speedbump trick. If Hershey believes she is being ignored, picked on, or is simply bored, she will walk up to the closest human and speedbump just outside of petting distance. Needless to say, you look over your shoulder and there is a ferret hugging the ground with her sad eyes saying "Don't you love me any more?"

Hershey is now 3 years old, half of her life she has lived with me. The history of the other half of her life is unknown to me, but I believe she is alive today thanks to a special young woman who found Hershey and tried to give her a home. By this time, Hershey had already been bounced to many households and probably hit many times, the result was a ferocious fear biter. Unfortunately, Hershey was a bit too aggressive to remain at her new home, but thanks to a query to the Toronto Internet Ferret Group our paths crossed. With a lot of patience, understanding and love Hershey came out of her shell, and is now my beautiful Amazonian Speedbump.
