The Storm Sisters
This page is dedicated to the antics of multiple ferrets teaming up to outwit the human portion of a
household. It is a truism that ferrets are intelligent, curious creatures however, once in a while a ferret can
find a partner in crime and when this happens.....
Humans beware, there is no limit to the chaos that can be generated!
In an attempt to prepare you for the intellectual competition that you may be up against if your ferrets have
joined the Way of the Storm, let me tell you about a couple of antics from the original Storm Sisters,
Thunder and Lightning.

Storm must go on....
When you first move into a new place, sounds can trick you and the Storm Sisters used this to their
advantage. Picture this, I’m on the phone and hear rustling coming from the direction of the hallway.
Quickly I put the phone down and check what mischief the girls are getting into. To my surprise, they are
simply in the hallway playing with the newspapers. I continue the phone conversation and the noise
returns, once again I check, and the girls are playing with the newspapers. Assuming that the acoustics are
different from one room to the next, I return to the phone and ignore the continuing noise. Twenty minutes
later, I hang up the phone and go to play with my girls, only to find the joke was on me!
During the phone call Thunder and Lightning had managed to unravel an entire roll of toilet paper.
Somehow they had heard me coming to check on them, and each time they managed to get to the pile of
newspapers in the hallway just to distract me from the real sound, hence they ensured they could continue
their game of flinging toilet paper all over the bathroom!
In the beginning, I did my damnedest to confine the Storm Sisters in the bedroom of my apartment while I
went to work. Each day I would return to find the girls waiting for me in the hallway, with the bedroom
door wide open. Finally I learned the trick....
Working together, a closed door turned about to be a minor inconvenience for the Storm Sisters, one that
could be easily overcome. Lightning would scale the bookshelf next to the door, while Thunder would sit
at the foot of the door. Lightning would then leap from the shelf and use the doorknob to slow her descent.
At the same time Thunder would put her front paws on the door and push, just as the knob turned. The
result, an open door and two ferrets very proud of themselves!
Here is an episode where I actually assumed that I had won a mental victory over one of my ferrets.
Thunder, obviously peeved that I had taken "her" TV remote back from the hidey hole, attempted to steal it
back. Normally, I give up after 5 minutes of her scaling my clothes and give her the remote to hide. This
time the game went on for 20 minutes of Thunder following the remotes movements and attempting to
retrieve it. Finally she gave up, I had won (or so I thought).
A minute later my radio goes off in my room, I jump up to turn off the noise. What I find when I enter the
bedroom is Lightning standing on my clock radio. When I get within a foot of the radio, Lightning stomps
on the snooze button (a trick she learned from me) and runs off dooking. Perplexed at what had just
happened, I returned to the family room only to find that Thunder had stolen the TV remote while I was
distracted. FOILED AGAIN!
