Abbey lands real writing job in west suburbs
Tamara Abbey recently accepted a staff position with Journal & Topics Newspapers in west suburban Chicago. She will cover events in Park Ridge. "I'm very excited about working in journalism again," Abbey said. "I'm a little rusty, but I hope it all comes back quickly - kind of like riding a bike!" Abbey began working on July 8, a Wednesday. "Yes, that's one way to get that awful first week over," she said. "Everyone has to settle in and it does take time to get used to a new situation, but I'd rather get going just as soon as possible." The office is in Des Plaines, which makes it difficult for Abbey to get to work every morning. She will be temporarily staying in Mt. Prospect until the family can move closer. |
"It will take some creative scheduling," said Rick White, Abbey's husband, "but we should be able to work it out and it is good to see her back in writing again." The new job means Abbey and White's son, Alex, will start daycare. His aunt Jan found an excellent center in the suburbs and Alex was thrilled with the new school. "He just jumped right in and started playing," Abbey said about their visit to the daycare. "He ran all over, located the cookie jar in record time and just basically enjoyed himself during his visit." The daycare is church-based which makes it a very loving, nurturing place for young children. The classrooms are well-supervised with only a few students per teacher. The daycare offers breakfast and lunch and numerous activity and learning programs in addition to frequent playtimes. |

"The home daycare situation last winter was really just parking him in front of the tv all day with few, if any, supervised activities for the kids." Alex attended a part-time daycare for a few months earlier this year while his mother worked a part-time, temporary assignment at Plano Molding. Alex really enjoyed being around children his own age, Abbey noted, but she was not very impressed with the actual care he was receiving. "This really will be much better," she added. |
