We have been contacted by Barbara Stockard president of the "Prairie Wind Sighthound Association" regarding a "Bark in the Park" event at Cico Park on May 11, 2002. I have informed them will are unable to participate at this time but would like to next year. Barbara would like us to let her know dates that would work for us next spring.

HDTC Meeting: General meetings will be held during the months of January, April, July, and October  and or November of 2002. These will be the (4) meetings the club voted to have. We will more than likely have other meetings.  As we still need to hold some activities to earn money for the club if we wish to hold a show.

Training: Members are encouraged to participate in free, cooperative group training . It was decided that on the second Saturday of each month to get together and do agility and or obedience.  Location is CiCo park, with other possible locations including Salina, Abilene, and others. See schedule below for future training dates. All ideas are encouraged to help make our group training useful to us all.

Future Training Dates

Let us know what you want or need to work on and we can arrange for it to happen on a training day.

HDTC April 20, 2002 Minutes

Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the home of Lori Neer in Manhattan Kansas, President Janet Griggs called The Heartland Dog Training Club meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. Members in attendance were: Rosalie Behnke, Ruth Ann Furze, Randy & Janet Griggs, Lori Neer, and Jeanne Saddler. Also in attendance were two friends of Ruth Ann Furze: Madeline who is a UKC judge and Eleanor another friend and their two dogs.

The minutes of the last meeting were approved with a correction to the sentence: “Jeanne is also storing obedience and utility equipment owned by the club at her home.” The correction: the word “utility” to be changed to “agility”. Jeanne moved and Rosalie seconded the motion to accept the changes to the minutes. The motion carried. Jeanne also mentioned she has the wheels that Julie Degen donated to the club.

Janet Griggs reminded everyone the next club meeting will be in July and is looking for anyone interested in hosting the meeting, and dates for the meeting. Janet also suggested that the meeting could be held at a park and, having a picnic without our dogs and play games such as crocket or have our dogs with us.

Treasurer’s report by Ruth Ann Furze:

Deposit of $140.00 mostly from dues, and a deposit of $260.00 from the workshop held March 9, 2002.

Total Balance in checking account: $634.73

Janet Griggs updated everyone on the upcoming “Dog Day” event at Cico Park. The March 2nd date was canceled, with the new date May 11, 2002. Barbara Stockard has been informed that HDTC will not be able to participate. Barbara would like Heartland members to suggest dates for next spring that would work.

Lori Neer will be having a Special Paws booth at the Dog Day event and will let Heartland put out flyers on her table. Ruth Ann Furze volunteered to help her at the table. Janet will get some flyers to Lori.

Janet Griggs reported that the March 9th 2002 agility workshop was a success, while the April 11, 2002 CGC “Canine Good Citizen Class” class has been canceled due to lack of interest and the check returned.

Rosalie Behnke informed us of the herding clinic she is holding on June 15-16. If you are interested please contact her and she will get more information out to you.

Lorie Neer also gave us information on “Special Paws” and what is happening. She supplied us with membership information and a newsletter. Check out her booth on May 11 at Cico Parks “Dog Day”.

Janet Griggs informed members that the Hutchinson UKC agility trial date has changed to June 8 and 9. Premiums were available for those interested in entering the trial.

Janet Griggs mentioned the decision of Cheryl May to resign her membership and her position as obedience training director effective May 16, 2002. We would like to say Thank You Cheryl for all you hard work over the years, we will miss you but we understand why.

The motion was made by Randy and seconded by Jeanne to table the discussion on filling the position of Obedience Director until the July meeting.  Volunteers are encouraged to step forward.

Janet Griggs read the Membership Application of Lisa and Madeline Logan. There was a written ballet. Congratulations Lisa and Madeline and family, Welcome to HDTC. Janet Griggs will be sending the Logan family club information.

There were no Committee reports at this time.

There was a discussion on the clubs insurance. A motion made by Ruth Ann and seconded by Lori was made to not pay the insurance at this time and to check into other options. Janet Griggs volunteered to check into other insurance.

Janet Griggs made the motion for members to give up all past “Doggie Dollars” and start all over again at 0. Randy seconded the motion and the motion was passed.

Janet Griggs brought up the need to find a new home for the clubs equipment that is currently being kept at Jeanne’s house. Ruth Ann will check into the cost of a storage unit.

Jeanne motioned to adjourn; the motion was seconded by Lori and passed. The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
