Political Action Committee that passed the historic Oregon Death with Dignity Act in 1994. Since
then, ORTD has defended this ground breaking law against lawsuits, referendum, and attacks by
anti-choice groups in both the Oregon Legislature and the United States Congress. 1999 has already

Mainers for Death with Dignity Located in Portland Maine, Mainers for Death with Dignity is advocating the passage of the Maine Death with Dignity Act, the goal of which is to legalize physician aid-in-dying. A ballot referendum will be voted upon on November 7th. Polls indicate that 72% of Mainers in a recent independent poll supported this legislation. Compassion in Dying client services, legal advocacy and public education to improve pain and symptom management, increase patient empowerment and self-determination and expand end-of-life choices to include aid-in-dying for terminally ill, mentally competent adults. It serves as an information resource for the public and the media, providing factual, up-to-date information that is balanced, authoritative and understandable. American Civil Liberties Union is the nation's foremost advocate of individual rights -- litigating, legislating, and educating the public on a broad array of issues affecting individual freedom in the United States. People for the American Way organizes and mobilizes Americans to fight for fairness, justice, civil rights and the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.
