The Music I Like!!!! (part 3)
This is a pretty funky band called Great Big Sea. They hail from Newfoundland, which is up north in Canadian territory. These guys play a sort of Celtic/folk/pop/rock blend that comes across very well. Very good stuff with these guys. I've had the pleasure of meeting them, and the pictures I got from that will be somewhere on this site... Where? You figgah it out. But anyway, if you get the chance, check these guys out. It's good schtuff. SEEN 'EM!!!

This is Van Halen. The band that changed how people play guitar at the end of the 70s. Having been through three singers, though, their fanbase is kinda divided. Many think David Lee Roth was the best. Many think the same of Sammy Hagar. A lot of people didn't really like Gary Cherone, and I'll never understand why. He was great... But I like all three of 'em. Fans that call Van Halen without David Lee Roth "Van Hagar" or "Van Cherone" are only kidding themselves. The band's called VAN HALEN for a reason. Besides, they all had their strong points and weaknesses. As long as Eddie and Alex are in the band, they'll be around. And with Eddie, they'll have plenty of fans. Because Eddie is really who MADE that band. Anyway... That's all I can think of saying... OH! I had the GREAT pleasure of meeting the band when I saw them for the second time on their last tour. Check the same place you'd find the Great Big Sea pics for the pic of that. SEEN 'EM!!!!

As it says in the picture (TWICE, no less!), this is NOFX... A band that is (as it also says in the picture) 100% PUNK ROCK! Their music is loud, somewhat simple to play, and often humorous! At least I think so, anyway. Songs of theirs that I'd recommend to people who've never heard NOFX before would be "Bob," "Liza And Louise," "Monosyllabic Girl," "It's My Job To Keep Punk Rock Elite," and "Kids Of The K-Hole." (while listening to the last two in succession) And bcause there are TWO guitarists, there are actually SOLOS! Something not always associated with punk rock... But anyway, I'd recommend picking up their 1992 album, White Trash, Two Heebs, and a Bean, for some good punk rock. You're not allowed to be disappointed. So don't be, or else Eric Melvin (the one in the coconut bra) will come looking for you.

This is, in my opinion, THE greatest guitarist to ever walk the planet. His name is Steven Siro Vai. A member of Frank Zappa's band as the "Stunt guitarist," Stevie here went on to play guitar in David Lee Roth's first solo band... And those following Roth were Van Halen fans... And they pretty much made Steve a bona fide guitar GOD... Well, one that was a star. Then, after playing in Whitesnake, Steve released his groundbreaking instrumental classic, Passion And Warfare. He went on to record many more solo albums, including Alien Love Secrets, Fire Garden, and The Ultra Zone. If you're interested in checkin' him out at all, I'd really recommend Passion And Warfare or Alien Love Secrets as the first album you check out. The man is AMAZING... You WON'T be disappointed.
