Halie's World
The puppies are doing well, and we have exciting news to share. A wonderful lady, Louise Coleman, from Massachusetts, who founded a Greyhound Friends Incorporated, has offered to bring all the unplaced puppies and their mother back to the states for adoption! She's familiar with the plight of the Spanish galgo (the Spanish sitehound similar to the greyhound), and even had the kennel owner where we found the mama travel to the states for a kennel management crash course. You can read all about the Cadiz kennel on her website. We were very excited to hear that Louise was interested in helping find homes for the puppies, and I hope I can help her find loving homes by sending some pictures ahead of time. Below are photos taken this evening. The puppies are now 22 days old, walking, beginning to play and bite each other, hungrily eating the milk and cereal mix I offer three times a day, and urinating and defecating everywhere! If you want to learn more about what the past few weeks have been like, read about the puppies at About.com's dog forum . I've received support and advice through the whole whelping, supplementing ordeal from various dog owners and breeders from around the states. ![]() Alaska and Manitoba were some of the largest puppies at whelping. The others have since caught up in size, but these two have always seemed like twin brother and sister to me. Alaska, a male, is quite cute, and Manitoba (Manny for short) has an adorable face and Barbara Streisand nose! Honestly, I may have trouble parting with adorable Manny, and I hope I can see her again one day. ![]() Cuba, a little, fawn male, lying next to Chile, a brindle female. Little Cuba is a cutie, and is trying real hard to learn to urinate in the right spot (Not on mama, Cuba!) Chile is a sweet little girl with lovely Brindle markings down her back. She has four white paws, and a white streak (likely for speed) running from her white muzzle down her back. ![]() Three fawn females, Norway, Africa and Sahara. Sahara is one of the bigger puppies, weighing in two days ago at 1.6 kilos. Norway, the sweetheart in the middle, is just a darling little girl. Africa, is a sweetheart, too, but for some reason, we always overlook her. ![]() The littlest puppy, Sydney, is a darker fawn color, but may be a soft brown later. She is a feisty little girl, holding on for dear life as the others create mass hysteria around the dinner table. Supplementing her meals, I've created an enthusiastic eater at the milk and cereal bowl. She mows! Here, she looks rather sleepy and sedate, but trust me, this girl is very playful, and is often seen jumping around behind the others trying to start some kind of game of cat and mouse. ![]() Africa, a sweet, fawn female is often overlooked by us in the group (it's hard not to overlook someone in a group of 11!) She is adorable, though, and an enthusiastic eater. Like several of the others, she's still learning where the potty paper is. ![]() Russia, one of four males in the bunch has been quite a character from the beginning. A typical male, he's always been a very loud and enthusiastic eater. He's been very strong from the beginning, and gets right in the mix of things fighting over a nipple. He's a real cutie, and someone will be truly blessed to have him. |
